Shattered Peace

Part 42

The police officer's somber expression seemed to deepen as he said, "I'm sorry." His words hung in the air, heavy with regret, before he turned and left, leaving me shattered on the floor. Mina's concerned voice was the only thing that broke the silence, "Vesper, what's wrong?" I looked up at her, tears streaming down my face, and managed to choke out, "My parents...they're dead," Mina's eyes widened in shock, and she rushed to my side, helping me up from the floor. She wrapped a supportive arm around my shoulders, and I leaned into her, feeling a sense of numbness wash over me. Without a word, she led me out of my room and down to the common area of the dorms. The familiar sounds of chatter and laughter seemed out of place now, and I felt like I was walking through a nightmare. As we entered the common area, Mina gathered everyone's attention, her voice low but urgent. "Guys, we need to talk about something." Bakugo, Deku, Ochaco, Ida, Jiro, Ojiro, Hagakure, Kaminari, Kirishima, Koda, Sato, Todoroki, Tsu, Shoji, and Tokoyami all turned to face us, their expressions curious. Mina took a deep breath before speaking, "Vesper just got some devastating news. Her parents...they're dead." The room fell silent, and I felt like I was reliving the moment all over again. The faces of my friends seemed to blur together as I stared blankly ahead, but I could see the shock and sadness etched on their features. The room seemed to hold its breath for a moment before the weight of Mina's words sank in. Deku's eyes went wide, and Ochaco's hand flew to her mouth. Bakugo's face hardened, and Todoroki's eyes clouded over with concern. The others looked just as stunned, their hearts sinking at the news. The silence was oppressive, and I felt like I was drowning in my grief. I couldn't process the fact that my parents were really gone. The League of Villains had taken them from me, and I couldn't help but wonder what I had done to deserve this. Mina's arm around me tightened, and I knew she was trying to offer what little comfort she could. As the reality of the situation set in, the room erupted into a flurry of concerned whispers and murmurs. I stood there, frozen, my world shattered into a million pieces. My parents, gone. The League of Villains, responsible. The words repeated in my mind like a mantra, each one a painful reminder of my loss.
