"Twenty Weeks and a World of Wonder"

Part 27

Two months had passed since Ashley's anatomy scan, and she was now 20 weeks pregnant. She was sitting in a baby store, surrounded by adorable onesies and toys, as she and Dominic waited for their next appointment. Today was a big day - Ashley had an amniocentesis test scheduled to check for any genetic abnormalities, and she also had another oncology appointment to check on the status of her cancer. As she flipped through a rack of baby clothes, Ashley couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. Excitement and nervousness warred for dominance as she thought about the test results and the upcoming arrival of their baby. She and Dominic had been preparing the nursery for weeks, but they were still waiting to find out the baby's gender. Dominic walked over to her, holding up a tiny pair of shoes. "What do you think? Should we get these?" he asked, his eyes sparkling with mischief. Ashley laughed. "I think we should wait until we find out if it's a boy or girl," she said, smiling. Dominic nodded, putting the shoes back on the shelf. "Good point. I don't want to jinx it." As they continued to browse the store, Ashley's mind began to wander to the amniocentesis test. She had been worried about the risks, but the doctor had reassured her that it was a routine procedure. Still, she couldn't shake the feeling of unease. After a while, they left the store and headed to the hospital for Ashley's appointments. As they walked into the oncology office, Ashley felt a sense of déjà vu. It had been six months since her diagnosis, and she was eager to get some reassurance that the cancer was still in remission. Dr. Lee greeted them warmly and began to review Ashley's charts. "Everything looks great, Ashley," she said with a smile. "Your cancer is still in remission. You're clear." Ashley felt a wave of relief wash over her, and she let out a sigh of happiness. She and Dominic exchanged a look, both of them smiling. Next, they headed to the ultrasound suite for the amniocentesis test. Ashley was a nervous wreck as the technician explained the procedure and began to prep her for the test. Dominic held her hand, trying to calm her down. As the technician inserted the needle and took a sample of the amniotic fluid, Ashley felt a pang of discomfort. But it was over quickly, and the technician reassured her that everything had gone smoothly. Now, all they had to do was wait for the test results. Ashley and Dominic left the hospital, hand in hand, both of them eager to find out the baby's gender and any other information the test might reveal. As they walked out into the bright sunlight, Ashley turned to Dominic and smiled. "I think we deserve a treat," she said, her eyes sparkling with mischief. Dominic raised an eyebrow. "What did you have in mind?" Ashley grinned. "Let's go get some ice cream." Dominic laughed and pulled her close. "Sounds like a plan to me."
