Chapter 18: Dawn's Early Light

Part 18

The warm rays of the morning sun peeked through the blinds, casting a gentle glow over the room. Maya slowly opened her eyes, feeling refreshed and rejuvenated after a good night's sleep. She turned to Sabrina, who was still fast asleep, her chest rising and falling with each gentle breath. Maya smiled, taking in the sight of her girlfriend's peaceful expression. As she lay there, Maya couldn't help but think about the conversation they had the night before. She had been feeling overwhelmed and anxious, but Sabrina's calm and gentle nature had helped to soothe her worries. Maya felt grateful for her girlfriend's support and care. Maya gently turned onto her side, careful not to disturb Sabrina. She took a moment to study her girlfriend's face, tracing the contours of her cheekbones and the soft curve of her lips. Sabrina stirred, her eyes fluttering open as she smiled at Maya. "Good morning," Sabrina whispered, her voice husky from sleep. Maya smiled back, feeling a warmth spread through her chest. "Good morning," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. Sabrina sat up, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. "How are you feeling today?" she asked, her brow furrowed with concern. Maya thought for a moment before responding. "I'm feeling better," she said, her voice a little stronger now. "The bath and the sleep really helped." Sabrina nodded, a smile spreading across her face. "I'm glad to hear that," she said. "I was thinking we could try to get you out of the house today. Maybe take a walk or something." Maya hesitated, unsure if she was ready for that. But Sabrina's encouraging expression made her feel more confident. "Okay," she said, nodding. "That sounds nice." Sabrina got out of bed and started getting dressed. Maya watched her, feeling grateful for her girlfriend's enthusiasm and energy. As Sabrina helped her get dressed and ready for the day, Maya couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. She had been cooped up in the house for too long, and the prospect of getting outside and fresh air was just what she needed. As they headed out the door, Maya felt a sense of trepidation. What if she got overwhelmed? What if she couldn't handle it? But Sabrina's reassuring presence and gentle grip on her hand helped to calm her nerves. The morning air was crisp and cool, filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers and the sound of birds chirping. Maya took a deep breath, feeling her lungs expand and her senses come alive. She smiled at Sabrina, who was watching her with a concerned expression. "It's okay," Maya said, her voice a little stronger now. "I'm okay." Sabrina smiled back, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "I know you are," she said. "I'm here with you." As they walked through the quiet streets, Maya felt a sense of peace settle over her. She knew that she still had a long way to go, but with Sabrina by her side, she felt like she could face anything. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and Maya was feeling alive. For the first time in weeks, she felt like she was taking steps towards healing, and it was all thanks to Sabrina's love and support.
