**Fractured Existence**
Part 1
I slowly opened my eyes, groggily taking in my surroundings. The cold, sterile smell of the medical infirmary assaulted my nostrils, and I winced. The last thing I remembered was the titan ambush during our expedition outside the walls. Our scout team, including my boyfriend, Han, and I, were caught off guard by a group of ruthless Titans. I recalled the chaos, the sounds of gunfire and screams, and then... nothing. As I struggled to sit up, a sharp pain shot through my body, and I fell back onto the bed. I was disoriented and confused. A gentle hand grasped mine, and I turned my head to see Han's worried face. "Easy, love," he whispered, his voice trembling. "You've been through a lot. Just relax." I tried to speak, but my voice was barely a whisper. A strange, foreign object felt like it was lodged in my throat. Han noticed my distress and gently adjusted the endotracheal tube that protruded from my mouth. "What's... what's happening to me?" I managed to croak. Han's expression was somber. "You were severely injured during the ambush. You suffered a... a severe internal decapitation. Your C1 and C2 spinal cord is snapped in half." I felt a wave of panic wash over me as I processed his words. I tried to move, but a searing pain shot through my body, and I gasped. My diaphragm felt weak, and my lungs struggled to expand. "I'm... I'm paralyzed," I stammered, my voice cracking. Han nodded, his eyes welling up with tears. "From the chest down, yeah. The medical team is doing everything they can to stabilize you, but... it's going to be a long road to recovery." I glanced down at my body, and my gaze fell upon the array of machines beeping and whirring around me. A ventilator hummed softly, and I realized it was connected to the endotracheal tube in my throat. "Can't... breathe," I whispered, feeling a sense of desperation. Han squeezed my hand reassuringly. "Don't worry, love. The ventilator is helping you breathe. Just focus on getting better, okay?" As I lay there, I became aware of a dull, aching sensation in my body. It was as if my skin was on fire, but I couldn't feel any heat. I shivered, and Han quickly adjusted the temperature controls on the bed. "You're hypersensitive to temperature changes now," he explained gently. "Your spinal cord isn't connected to your brain properly, so... it's just another side effect of your injuries." I closed my eyes, feeling overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of my injuries. My heart had stopped multiple times during our journey to the infirmary, and I knew I was lucky to be alive. Han's voice whispered in my ear, "I'm here, love. I'll always be here for you. Just hang in there, okay?" As I drifted off into a fitful sleep, I knew that my existence had been fractured, and I wondered if I would ever be whole again.
