Chapter 62: A Quick Escape
Part 61
"Chapter 62: A Quick Escape" I immediately get flustered, my face growing hot as I try to play it cool. "Yea, everything's fine," Hawks says reassuringly, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he smiles. I shoot him a look, still feeling embarrassed, but he just chuckles and takes my arm. "Hey, wanna get out of here?" he asks, his voice low and conspiratorial. I nod, still feeling a bit flustered. "How?" I ask, looking around at the crowded streets. We can't just walk away, not with the League possibly lurking around every corner. Hawks glances around, his eyes scanning the rooftops and alleys. "I've got a way out," he says, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Follow me." He leads me down a narrow alleyway, dodging trash cans and leaping over puddles. I follow close behind, my heart pounding in my chest. We're not out of the woods yet, and I can feel the League's eyes on us, watching and waiting. As we run, the buildings seem to blur together, and I struggle to keep up with Hawks' rapid pace. We're heading deeper into the city, further and further away from the safety of the café. Finally, Hawks stops in front of a nondescript door, hidden behind a dumpster. He produces a key and unlocks the door, pushing it open with a flourish. "Welcome to my getaway car," he says, grinning. I peer inside, and my eyes widen in surprise. It's a sleek, high-tech motorcycle, with glowing blue lines etched into the side panels. "Whoa," I breathe. "That's... quite a bike." Hawks chuckles. "Yeah, it's a real head-turner. Hop on, and hold tight." I hesitate for a moment, unsure if I'm ready to trust Hawks with my life. But something about his confident smile puts me at ease, and I nod, swinging my leg over the bike. As I wrap my arms around Hawks' waist, I feel a rush of adrenaline. We're in this together, and I know that with Hawks by my side, we can face whatever comes next. With a roar of engines, the motorcycle shoots forward, and we speed off into the unknown.
