Chapter 58: Unveiling the Shadows

Part 58

"Woaahh!" Inasa balls his hands into fists as I explain my quirk in a clipped voice. "That's very powerful, (Y/N)-chan! I guess you're stronger in the darkness, then?" There are pros and cons," I shrug. "In the darkness people can't see, so if I hide in my shadow I become invisible. While in the light, people can still easily see my shadow even if the physical body disappears, and track me based on that. On the other hand, darkness works both ways: I can't see their shadows either, and if I don't see them I can't control them." Inasa looks like an overexcited puppy. "And, and-" he starts, his eyes wide with curiosity. "What does controlling mean?" I furrow my eyebrows in concentration as I look down at his shadow. It immediately answers to my call: it's as if it belongs to me, although it doesn't. With an effortless ease born from practice, I pull slightly, and Inasa stumbles. "Like that," I explain. Although physical movements aren't necessary to activate the simplest parts of my power, it still helps me envision the action in my head: if I squeeze, I keep him still. If I push, I throw him forward. If I pull, I make him fall. And if I concentrate just a little more and do any kind of gesture- he will copy. That drawback though... Inasa puts a hand on his chin, eyes lighting up with the spark of pondering. "What does it mean that your shadow leaves?"
