Chapter 34: The Uncomfortable Reality
Part 33
The fluorescent lights overhead seemed to hum in sync with Maya's growing unease as she stood at the front of the classroom, trying to lecture on the finer points of Shakespearean sonnets. She glanced around the room, her eyes scanning the sea of familiar faces, but her gaze kept drifting back to Eric, who sat in the back, his eyes fixed on her with an unnerving intensity. As she droned on, Maya couldn't shake off the feeling of discomfort that lingered from their earlier encounter. She had tried to brush it off as a momentary lapse, but the memory of his mom walking in on them lingered, making her feel like she was walking on eggshells. Just as she was starting to get into the zone, her phone buzzed on the desk, and she felt a jolt of surprise. She hesitated for a moment, wondering if she should answer it, but her curiosity got the better of her. She glanced at the screen and her heart sank. It was Eric. She tried to ignore it, but another text came in, and then another. Each one made her feel more and more uneasy. The messages were innocuous at first, but as the class went on, they became increasingly explicit. Maya's eyes widened in horror as she realized that Eric was sending her photos of himself, his genitalia on full display. Her hands shook as she tried to compose herself, but it was no use. The room seemed to spin around her, and she felt like she was going to be sick. She tried to shut down her phone, but it seemed to be blowing up with notifications. Videos and photos kept popping up, each one more disturbing than the last. Maya's eyes darted around the room, but her students seemed oblivious to her distress. She tried to focus on the lesson, but it was no use. Her mind was reeling, and her body felt like it was on fire. She couldn't believe that Eric was doing this to her, especially in class. The final straw came when a video started playing on her phone, showing Eric masturbating. Maya's eyes went wide, and she felt like she was going to vomit. She quickly silenced her phone, but not before the whole class had seen it. The room fell silent, with all eyes on her. She took a deep breath, trying to compose herself, but it was no use. The damage was done. Maya's face burned with shame and embarrassment as she tried to process what had just happened. She knew she had to get out of there, but her legs felt like lead, and she couldn't seem to move. The rest of the class was a blur, but Maya knew she had to get Eric's attention. She cleared her throat and tried to speak, but her voice shook. "Eric, I need to see you after class," she said, trying to keep her tone even. The rest of the period was a nightmare, but eventually, it came to an end. As the students filed out of the classroom, Maya felt like she was going to collapse. She had no idea how she was going to face Eric's mom, or how she was going to get through the rest of the day without losing her mind. As she gathered her things, Maya couldn't shake off the feeling that her life was about to get a whole lot more complicated. She tried to push aside the feeling of unease and focus on the task at hand, but it was no use. The damage was done, and she knew it.
