Eight Months Apart
Part 7
The days blended together in a blur of monotony as Chaewon studied abroad, trying to move on from Minjoo. He had thought that distance and time would help him forget her, but the memories of their time together lingered, refusing to be erased. He remembered the way she smiled, the way her eyes sparkled in the sunlight, and the way her laughter made him feel alive. Chaewon's days were filled with classes, homework, and a new group of friends. But despite his best efforts, he couldn't shake off the feeling of emptiness that had settled in his chest. He felt like a part of him was missing, like he had left a piece of his heart behind in Korea. As he walked through the streets of his new city, Chaewon couldn't help but wonder what Minjoo was doing. Was she happy? Was she with Yujin? The thoughts swirled in his mind, making it hard for him to focus on anything else. Chaewon's emotional growth and change during this period were subtle, but profound. He began to realize that his feelings for Minjoo went far beyond obligation or duty. He had genuinely cared for her, and his decision to break up with her had been motivated by a desire to set her free. But as the months passed, Chaewon began to see that his decision had also been motivated by a desire to protect himself. He had been hurt by Minjoo's rejection, by her inability to love him the way he loved her. And so, he had built walls around his heart, walls that he hoped would keep him safe from further pain. Despite his best efforts, Chaewon couldn't help but feel a sense of longing whenever he thought of Minjoo. He wondered what could have been, what would have happened if she had loved him the way he loved her. The thoughts haunted him, making it hard for him to sleep at night. As the semester drew to a close, Chaewon began to think about his future. He knew that he would have to return to Korea eventually, and he wondered what he would find when he got there. Would Minjoo still be in his life? Or would she have moved on, finding happiness with someone else? The uncertainty was almost too much to bear. Chaewon felt like he was standing at a crossroads, unsure of which path to take. But as he looked within himself, he knew that he had to be honest with himself. He still had feelings for Minjoo, and he couldn't ignore them forever. With a newfound sense of determination, Chaewon began to make plans for his return to Korea. He knew that it wouldn't be easy, that there would be challenges and obstacles along the way. But he was ready to face them head-on, to see what the future held for him and Minjoo. As he packed his bags and prepared to leave, Chaewon felt a sense of excitement that he hadn't felt in months. He was going back to Korea, back to the place where his heart had been broken. But he was also going back with a newfound sense of hope, a sense that maybe, just maybe, he and Minjoo could find their way back to each other.
