"Convalescence"

Part 3

The sun had long since set on Nevarro, casting a warm orange glow over the planet's rust-red landscape. Peli's hanger, a humble sanctuary in the midst of the bustling spaceport, was bathed in the soft light of a single overhead lamp. Din lay still on his makeshift bed, his chest rising and falling with each labored breath. Peli sat beside him, her eyes fixed on his face as she monitored his condition. As the hours ticked by, Din's fever began to recede, and his rest grew more peaceful. Peli's grip on his hand relaxed, and she rose to check on Grogu, who was sleeping soundly in his incubator. The little creature's gentle coos and snuffles filled the air, a soothing background hum that seemed to lull Peli into a state of calm. As she tended to Grogu's needs, Peli's mind wandered back to Din. She had seen him at his worst, battered and bruised from countless battles, but never had she seen him so vulnerable. The armor that normally protected him, both physically and emotionally, was cracked and broken, revealing a glimpse of the scared and tired man beneath. Peli's thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the hanger's entrance. She hesitated for a moment, wondering who it could be at such a late hour. The knock came again, more insistently this time, and Peli rose to investigate. She opened the door to reveal a hooded figure, clad in a worn leather jacket and carrying a small satchel slung over their shoulder. "Peli, I heard Din was laid up," the figure said, pushing back their hood to reveal a familiar face. "I brought some supplies." Peli's eyes narrowed as she took in the stranger's appearance. It was Greef Karga, the former magistrate of Nevarro. "Greef, what brings you here?" she asked warily. Greef smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I heard Din was under the weather, and I figured he might need some help getting back on his feet. I brought some meds, food, and a few other things that might come in handy." Peli's expression softened, and she stepped aside to let Greef in. As he entered, she caught sight of the satchel slung over his shoulder. "What's in the bag?" she asked, her curiosity piqued. Greef's smile grew wider. "Let's just say I have a few connections who owe me favors. I managed to scrounge up some rare and expensive medications that might help Din recover faster." As Greef began to unpack the contents of his satchel, Peli's eyes widened in surprise. There were packets of dried meat, fresh fruit, and even a few bottles of water – luxuries in short supply on Nevarro. "You're a lifesaver, Greef," she said, her voice filled with gratitude. Greef chuckled, his eyes twinkling. "I'm just paying it forward, Peli. Din's been a good friend to me, and to this planet. He deserves a little TLC." As the night wore on, Peli and Greef tended to Din's needs, administering medication and feeding him broth. Din, still weak and groggy, was grateful for their care, but his mind was elsewhere. He couldn't shake the feeling that he was in danger, that Grogu was in danger, and that he needed to get back on his feet – and fast. Little did he know, his convalescence was only the beginning of a new and unexpected chapter in his life.
