"A Wave of Morning Sickness"
Part 13
Maya woke up to a familiar feeling, a wave of nausea washing over her like a tidal wave. She groggily opened her eyes to find Nick sitting beside her, concern etched on his face. "Hey, how are you feeling?" he asked, his voice soft and gentle. Maya tried to speak, but her throat felt dry and scratchy. She swallowed hard, trying to find her voice. "I...I don't know," she stammered, her stomach churning with a sudden bout of nausea. Nick quickly got out of bed and fetched a trash can, holding it beside her just in case. The morning sickness hit her like a ton of bricks, and Maya felt like she was going to throw up at any moment. Nick held her hair back, speaking softly to calm her down. "It's okay, baby, I've got you. Just breathe and let it pass." As the wave of nausea slowly receded, Maya lay back on the bed, exhausted. Nick handed her a glass of water and some crackers, which she gratefully accepted. "I'm so sorry," she said, her voice still shaking. "I didn't expect it to hit me this hard." Nick smiled and stroked her hair. "Don't apologize, you're not doing anything wrong. This is just morning sickness, and it's normal." He helped her sit up and took her hand, his eyes filled with love and concern. "I'll take care of you today, okay? You just rest and let me handle everything." Maya nodded, feeling a surge of gratitude towards Nick. She knew she was lucky to have him by her side, taking care of her through this rough patch. As the day went on, Maya struggled to keep down any food or water, but Nick was there to help her every step of the way. He made her tea, brought her crackers, and even helped her with her favorite TV show. Maya couldn't help but laugh at his silly antics, and for a few brief moments, she forgot about her nausea. As the day drew to a close, Maya realized that she had been in bed for most of the day, with Nick by her side the entire time. As she drifted off to sleep, she felt a deep sense of love and appreciation for Nick. He was her rock, her partner, and her best friend. And as she slept, she knew that she was in good hands, with Nick taking care of her through the ups and downs of pregnancy. When Maya woke up the next morning, she felt a little better, but still queasy. Nick was sitting beside her, sipping coffee and smiling at her. "Good morning, sleepyhead," he said, handing her a cup of tea. "I've got a surprise for you. I've ordered some soup and toast for breakfast, and I've even made a doctor's appointment for you today." Maya smiled weakly, feeling grateful for Nick's thoughtfulness. "Thanks, Nick. I don't know what I'd do without you." Nick smiled back, his eyes filled with love. "You'll never have to find out, because I'm not going anywhere."
