A Moment of Desperation
Part 8
As Ashley stepped out of the office building and into the parking lot, she felt a wave of relief wash over her. The cool breeze and fresh air were a welcome change from the stifling atmosphere of the office. But her relief was short-lived, as her stomach churned and her nausea returned. She quickly scanned her surroundings, her eyes landing on a ditch nearby. Without hesitation, she rushed over to the ditch and bent over, letting out a weak cry as she vomited. The act of throwing up brought her some relief, but it also left her feeling weak and drained. Ashley slowly stood up, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand. She took a few deep breaths, trying to calm herself down and gather her composure. As she made her way back to her car, Ashley couldn't help but feel a sense of frustration and anxiety. She was still unsure if she had made the right decision about getting pregnant, and Gerald's behavior wasn't helping to alleviate her doubts. She thought about their conversation earlier, and how he had barely even noticed her distress. Getting into her car, Ashley started the engine and began the drive home. She couldn't wait to get out of her clothes, lay down, and rest. As she pulled into her driveway, she noticed Gerald's car was parked outside. Her heart skipped a beat as she wondered if he was home, and what his mood would be like. Ashley pulled into the garage and shut off the engine. She slowly got out of the car and made her way into the house, feeling exhausted and drained. She kicked off her shoes and made her way to the bedroom, collapsing onto the bed. She let out a deep sigh, feeling a mix of relief and anxiety. As she lay there, Ashley couldn't help but think about Gerald. She wondered when he would come home, and what he would say when he saw her. Would he even notice that she had been sick? Would he care? Ashley closed her eyes, waiting for Gerald to come home and hoping that he would bring some sense of comfort and stability to her chaotic life. The minutes ticked by, and Ashley drifted in and out of sleep. She was vaguely aware of the sound of the front door opening, and Gerald's voice calling out to her. "Hey, Ash! I'm home!" Ashley slowly opened her eyes, her heart racing with anticipation. She waited for Gerald to come into the bedroom, wondering what he would say and do.
