The Shadows of the Demon Lord's Visitation

Part 9

As I stood there, transfixed by Elara's hopeful expression, the candles in the room began to flicker and dim, casting eerie shadows on the walls. The servant, who had been finishing up the lighting, looked around nervously, as if sensing that something was amiss. I didn't need any further warning; I knew that I had to leave, and fast. I scurried off, my heart racing with anticipation, not willing to risk being caught before I had found Mari. I moved swiftly down the corridor, my footsteps echoing off the stone walls. As I turned a corner, I heard Elara's voice behind me, her tone filled with rejoicing. "Tonight, my lord," she called out, her voice husky with desire. "I have waited so long for you." I didn't dare look back, fearing what I might see. The dimming candles, Elara's eager voice - it all presaged the imminent arrival of the demon lord. I quickened my pace, my senses on high alert as I navigated the darkening corridors. The castle seemed to be growing darker by the minute, as if the very shadows themselves were responding to Elara's summons. I could feel a malevolent presence lurking just out of sight, watching and waiting. I shivered, despite the warmth of the evening, and pressed on, determined to find Mari and get out of the castle before it was too late. As I moved through the twisting corridors, I began to feel disoriented. I had been so focused on finding Mari that I hadn't paid attention to my surroundings, and now I wasn't sure which way to go. I slowed to a stop, trying to get my bearings, but the darkness seemed to be closing in around me. Just as I was starting to panic, I heard a faint noise coming from up ahead. It was a soft whisper, barely audible, but it sounded like Mari's voice. I perked up, my heart racing with excitement, and moved cautiously towards the sound. I was one step closer to finding her, and I was determined to see this through, no matter what dangers lay ahead.
