Part 6

Four days had passed since Theo's illness, and he was finally back to his old self, full of energy and curiosity. Ashley was relieved that he had recovered quickly, and she was grateful for Mrs. Patel's understanding when she had to take time off to care for him. With Theo back to normal, Ashley knew it was time to head back to work. However, as she looked around the apartment, she realized that she had a new problem on her hands - childcare. Ashley couldn't afford to pay for daycare or after-school care, and she certainly couldn't ask Mrs. Patel to watch Theo again. So, she made the only decision she could think of - she would take Theo with her to work. She packed a small bag with his favorite toys, snacks, and a change of clothes, and they set off for the office. As they walked into the office, Theo's eyes widened with excitement. He loved being around Ashley, and he seemed to enjoy exploring new places. Ashley's coworkers smiled and greeted them, and Ashley could tell they were all curious about the little boy clinging to her hand. When she arrived at her desk, Ashley took a deep breath and tried to prepare herself for the conversation she was about to have with her boss. She had never brought Theo to work before, and she had no idea how Mrs. Patel would react. Just then, Mrs. Patel appeared at her door, a look of surprise on her face. "Ashley, I see you've brought Theo to work with you," she said, her voice neutral. Ashley took a deep breath and launched into an explanation of her situation. "I know it's not ideal, but I couldn't afford childcare, and I couldn't leave him alone. I promise he'll be quiet and won't disturb anyone." Mrs. Patel looked at Theo, who was busy playing with a toy car on the floor. "How old is he, anyway?" she asked. "He's two," Ashley replied. Mrs. Patel nodded thoughtfully. "Well, I suppose it's not the end of the world. But we do need to make sure he doesn't disrupt the work environment. Can you find a way to keep him occupied and quiet?" Ashley nodded eagerly, relieved that Mrs. Patel was being understanding. "I can bring some toys and books, and I'll make sure he's quiet when I'm on phone calls or in meetings." Mrs. Patel smiled. "Okay, let's give it a try. But if it becomes a problem, we'll have to rethink this arrangement." Ashley smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude towards her boss. She knew she was lucky to have a understanding employer, and she was determined to make this work. She settled in for the day, Theo by her side, and got to work. It was going to be an interesting day, but Ashley was ready for the challenge.
