Playing with Fire
Part 3
As Brooklyn walked down the hallway, she couldn't shake off the feeling that Mr. Blackwood's eyes were on her, watching her every move. She had been thinking about their conversation in the quiet corner of the hallway, and how it had left her feeling both grateful and uneasy. She had also been thinking about Rachel's comment that she should try to make Mr. Blackwood jealous, just to see if he would react. Brooklyn wasn't sure if she was ready to play games with her teacher, but a part of her was curious to see how he would respond. She scanned the hallway, her eyes landing on a familiar face - Alex, the star quarterback of the school football team. He was chatting with a group of friends, but his eyes lit up when he saw Brooklyn. She smiled, and he excused himself from his friends, walking over to her. "Hey, Brooklyn! What's up?" he asked, his eyes crinkling at the corners. Brooklyn playfully rolled her eyes. "Just trying to survive the day, Alex. What about you?" Alex shrugged. "Same here. But I have to say, you look amazing today." Brooklyn blushed, feeling a flutter in her chest. She had always thought Alex was cute, and she had to admit that she was having a little fun playing the role of the pursued. She glanced around, her eyes scanning the hallway for a glimpse of Mr. Blackwood. That's when she saw him - standing by his classroom, his eyes fixed intently on her. Without thinking, Brooklyn wrapped her arms around Alex's waist, pulling him close. "Hey, I was just thinking about you, Alex," she said, her voice husky. "Want to walk with me to my next class?" Alex's eyes lit up, and he put his arm around her shoulders, pulling her close. "I'd love to," he said, smiling down at her. As they walked down the hallway, Brooklyn couldn't help but sneak a glance over her shoulder. Mr. Blackwood's eyes were still on her, his expression unreadable. But for a moment, Brooklyn thought she saw a flicker of something - jealousy, maybe? - in his eyes. Brooklyn felt a thrill of excitement. She had been playing with fire, and it seemed like she had gotten a reaction. But as she looked into Alex's smiling face, she couldn't shake off the feeling that she was playing a game she didn't fully understand. As they turned a corner, Brooklyn caught sight of Rachel, who was watching her with a knowing look on her face. Brooklyn raised an eyebrow, and Rachel mouthed "spill" behind Alex's back. Brooklyn just smiled, feeling a little mischievous. For now, she was content to play the role of the pursued, and see where this game would take her. But as she glanced back at Mr. Blackwood's classroom, she couldn't help but wonder what she had just started.
