"Surviving the Chaos"
Part 97
Avery was 6 months old and Alex was 4, and Ashley felt like she was drowning in a sea of tantrums, diaper changes, and constant demands for attention. She hadn't had two seconds to herself in what felt like an eternity, and she was starting to lose her sense of self in the process. As she sat on the couch, trying to feed Avery her lunch, Alex climbed onto her lap, tugging on her hair and demanding to be noticed. "Momma, Momma, look at me!" he shouted, his eyes shining with excitement. Avery, startled by the commotion, began to cry, and Ashley felt her patience wearing thin. She tried to juggle feeding Avery and soothing Alex, but it was no use. Alex was relentless, constantly trying to get her attention, and Avery was becoming more and more demanding by the day. Ashley felt like she was being pulled in a million different directions, and she was exhausted. Just the day before, Alex had pinched Avery's arm, hard, and Ashley had felt a surge of fear and anger. How was she supposed to keep her children safe, and happy, when she couldn't even get a minute to herself? She had scolded Alex, trying to teach him that pinching wasn't okay, but she knew that she needed to find a way to manage the situation better. As she sat there, trying to catch her breath, Ashley's mind wandered to the pregnancy test she had taken a few days ago. She had been surprised, and more than a little overwhelmed, to find out that she was pregnant again. She hadn't felt happy, or excited, like she had with her previous pregnancies. Instead, she had felt a wave of dread wash over her. How was she supposed to handle another baby, not with Alex being so clingy and demanding? Ashley had kept the news to herself, not knowing how to break it to Avan. She knew that he would be excited, and that he would try to be supportive, but she just couldn't shake the feeling of exhaustion and overwhelm. She felt like she was barely holding it together, and the thought of another baby was just too much to bear. As Alex continued to climb all over her, and Avery wailed in the background, Ashley felt like she was at her breaking point. She needed help, and she needed it now. But as she looked around her chaotic living room, she couldn't see a way out.
