**Chapter 1: The Departure**

Part 1

The dim lights of the local pub flickered as Fay stepped off the stage, sweat glistening on her forehead as she wiped the sweat from her eyes. The crowd's applause still echoed in her ears as she packed up her guitar and began to make her way to the back of the venue. Her manager, Rachel, was waiting for her in the parking lot, a warm smile on her face. "Hey, kiddo! You killed it out there tonight," Rachel said, giving Fay a nod of approval. "I'm not sure what's gotten into you lately, but you're really bringing the energy." Fay smiled, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. "Thanks, Rach. I'm just glad to be heading out for a bit. I need a break from the city." Rachel raised an eyebrow. "So, I hear you're planning on taking a little summer vacation?" "Yeah, I'm heading to my grandfather's hometown for a bit. I need a break from the city," Fay replied, tossing her bag into the trunk of her car. Rachel's expression turned stern. "Well, I hope you're not planning on getting too relaxed. We have a lot of projects coming up, and I need you to be more involved in the industry world." Fay felt a pang of frustration at Rachel's words. She had been feeling overwhelmed with the constant demands of her music career, and a break was exactly what she needed. "I understand, Rach. I'll be back and ready to dive in headfirst after my vacation." Rachel nodded, seeming to accept Fay's assurance. "Alright, just make sure you're ready to hit the ground running when you get back. And don't forget to stay in touch while you're away." Fay nodded and got into her car, feeling a sense of relief wash over her as she pulled out of the parking lot. She was looking forward to a few weeks of relaxation and quality time with her grandfather. As she drove away, Fay's thoughts turned to her father, who would be picking her up and driving her to her grandfather's hometown. She hadn't seen him in a while, and she wasn't exactly looking forward to the 11-hour car ride. The drive to her father's house was uneventful, and Fay arrived just as her father was pulling up in his sleek black sedan. "Hey, kiddo! How was your show tonight?" James asked, not taking his eyes off the road. "It was good. The crowd was really into it," Fay replied, trying to sound enthusiastic. James grunted, his eyes still fixed on the road. "That's great. I'm sure you're excited to be heading out to your grandfather's place." Fay felt a pang of frustration at her father's lack of interest in her life. She tried to make small talk, but James seemed distant, his mind preoccupied with work. As the hours passed, Fay grew tired of the conversation and put on her headphones, listening to some new beats that her producer had sent her. The music was catchy and upbeat, and Fay found herself getting lost in the rhythm. As the music played on, Fay's eyelids began to droop, and she drifted off to sleep, lulled by the sound of the music and the hum of the engine. She slept for most of the ride, only waking up when James pulled into a rest stop. "Hey, kiddo, we're almost there," James said, his voice a little softer than before. Fay rubbed her eyes, feeling a little disoriented. She was glad to be almost at her grandfather's hometown, and she couldn't wait to see Lolo and relax for a bit. The rest of the drive was quiet, with Fay lost in her thoughts and James focused on the road. As they pulled into Lolo's hometown, Fay felt a sense of excitement wash over her. She was finally going to get the break she needed, and she was looking forward to spending time with her grandfather. As they pulled up to Lolo's house, Fay's excitement grew. She was home, and she was ready to start her summer vacation. Little did she know, this summer was going to be one she would never forget.
