"Confronting the Truth"

Part 79

I take a deep breath and try to process Katsuki's words. I feel like I've been punched in the gut, unsure of what to say or do next. I look at Katsuki, trying to read his expression, and that's when I see the pain and vulnerability in his eyes. "Katsuki, my name is Vesper, not Izuku or Deku," I say, trying to keep my voice calm. "It's Vesper. And what do you mean you can't trust me?!" Katsuki's eyes flicker, and he looks away, his jaw clenched. I can see the tension in his body, the way his fists are clenched at his sides. I take a step closer to him, trying to get him to open up. "Vesper?" he repeats, his voice barely above a whisper. "You're telling me your name is Vesper?" I nod, feeling a sense of frustration. "Yes, that's what I'm saying. And I want to know what's going on, Katsuki. I want to know why you're acting like this." Katsuki's eyes snap back to mine, and I see a flash of anger there. But then, it's replaced by a look of sadness. "I don't know if I can do this, Vesper," he says, his voice cracking. "I don't know if I can trust you. You've been calling me Deku, and... and it feels like you're just trying to get under my skin." I feel a pang of guilt at Katsuki's words. I realize that I have been using the name Deku, and I can see why it would be hurtful to him. "Katsuki, I'm sorry," I say, trying to reach out to him. "I didn't mean to hurt you. I just... I don't know what's going on, and I was trying to get to you." Katsuki's expression twists, and he looks away, his eyes welling up with tears. I feel a surge of concern and try to put a hand on his shoulder, but he shakes me off. "Don't touch me," he says, his voice cold. "Just... just leave me alone, Vesper." I'm taken aback by Katsuki's reaction, but I try to stay calm. I take a step back, trying to give him some space. "Okay, Katsuki," I say softly. "I'll leave you alone. But please, can we talk about this later? I want to help you, and I want to know what's going on." Katsuki's eyes flicker, and he looks at me, his expression unreadable. For a moment, I think he's going to say something, but then he just turns and walks away, leaving me standing there, feeling lost and unsure of what to do next.
