Fractured Reality

Part 14

The darkness that had threatened to consume Link earlier had receded, replaced by a disorienting fog that clouded his mind. He looked around the room, trying to focus on the faces of Zelda and Elara, but they seemed to shift and blur like reflections in rippling water. "What...what's happening?" he stammered, his voice shaking with confusion. Zelda's face snapped into focus, and she leaned forward, her eyes filled with concern. "Link, you're okay. You're just...your body's going through a lot right now." But Link wasn't sure he believed her. Everything seemed wrong, like he was trapped in a dream that he couldn't wake up from. He looked down at his hands, and they seemed foreign, like they belonged to someone else. Elara tried to hand him a glass of water, but Link jerked back, startled. "Whoa, easy," Elara said softly, holding out the glass again. Link took the glass, his hand trembling as he raised it to his lips. But as he looked at the water, he couldn't shake the feeling that it was something else entirely. He took a sip, and the liquid seemed to taste like sand. The confusion swirled around him, making it hard to think. Link's head spun, and he felt like he was going to be sick. But as the hours ticked by, the fog began to clear, and Link's mind slowly sharpened. He looked around the room again, and this time, everything seemed clearer. That's when he noticed it - double vision. Everything seemed to be duplicated, like he was seeing two versions of the world at once. Zelda's face was now two faces, identical but slightly offset. "Zelda?" he said, his voice shaking. Zelda's two faces looked at him, concern etched on both of them. "Link, what's wrong?" she asked. Link blinked, trying to clear his vision. But when he opened his eyes again, the double vision was still there. He looked at Elara, and she was duplicated too. "What's happening to me?" Link asked, panic rising in his chest. Elara's two faces exchanged a worried glance. "We don't know," she said, "but we'll figure it out. We'll get you through this." Link nodded, trying to hold onto their words like a lifeline. But as he looked around the room, he couldn't shake the feeling that his reality was fracturing, splintering into pieces that he might never be able to put back together again.
