"Adjusting to the New Norm"
Part 7
As the hours passed, Rhett began to notice that Link was growing increasingly uncomfortable. At first, he had written it off as nerves, but as the discomfort persisted, Rhett realized that something was amiss. He glanced over at Link, who was trying to focus on his phone, but his face was scrunched up in a mixture of pain and frustration. "Hey, man, are you okay?" Rhett asked, concern etched in his voice. Link nodded, but Rhett could see the tension in his body. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just... just need to get used to it, I guess." Rhett wasn't convinced. He gently took Link's hand in his, trying to examine the connection point. Link winced as Rhett prodded and poked, but Rhett was determined to figure out what was going on. As he examined the fibrous tissue binding their right hands together, he noticed that it was starting to tighten, putting pressure on Link's wrist. Rhett's eyes widened as he realized that this was just one of several issues. The first problem was the tissue itself, which was starting to constrict Link's wrist, causing him pain and discomfort. The second issue was the bulbous mass connecting their left shoulders, which was putting pressure on Link's shoulder joint, causing him to slouch and shift uncomfortably. The third problem was the thin membrane linking their stomachs, which was causing Link's digestive system to act up. Rhett could see that Link was getting bloated and uncomfortable, and he knew they needed to address this ASAP. The fourth issue was the strain on Link's circulatory system. The connection was causing his blood flow to slow, leading to swelling and discoloration in his left arm. Rhett's medical knowledge kicked in, and he knew they needed to get Link's circulation back to normal. The fifth and final problem was the emotional toll of being conjoined. Link was feeling trapped and helpless, and Rhett could see the anxiety and stress etched on his face. As Rhett finished his examination, he pulled out his phone to check their latest video's comments. They had gotten a few reactions, and Rhett's heart sank as he read through them. The first comment, from user "MythicalHater," read: "This is all just a publicity stunt, right? You're doing this to Link just for the sake of being linked. What a sick joke." The second comment, from user "SarcasticSally," was just as harsh: "Yeah, because nothing says 'good comedy' like torturing your co-host. You guys are just desperate for views at this point." But the third comment, from user "GGM_Forever," was a breath of fresh air: "Hey guys, just wanted to say that I'm loving the new dynamic! I know it can't be easy, but I'm here for you both. You're still bringing the laughs, even if you're stuck together." Rhett showed the comments to Link, who shook his head. "Unbelievable," he muttered. "Some people have no idea what we're going through." Rhett put a reassuring hand on Link's shoulder. "Don't worry, man. We'll get through this. And we'll figure out a way to make it work, even if it kills us."
