Midnight Revelries

Part 7

As we floated on our respective inflatables, the warm glow of the sparkler Adrian was holding cast a golden light on the water, making it seem like we were swimming in a sea of liquid gold. I took another hit of the joint, feeling the THC coursing through my veins, and handed it over to Adrian, who obligingly took a long drag. The fireworks exploding in the distance cast a kaleidoscope of colors across the sky, and their booms echoed through the air, making our conversation almost unnecessary. The cool water enveloped us as we slipped off our floaties and dove into the pool, the sensation a welcome relief from the warmth of the summer evening. We swam laps, laughing and splashing, the joint floating abandoned on the side of the pool. The water was refreshing, and I felt alive, free from the constraints of the world. As we swam, I couldn't help but notice the way Adrian's eyes crinkled at the corners when he smiled, or the way his hair curled slightly at the nape of his neck. I felt a flutter in my chest, but pushed the feeling aside, telling myself I was just being ridiculous. We were just having fun, enjoying the night, and each other's company. But as we climbed out of the pool, shaking off the excess water, I caught Adrian looking at me, his gaze lingering on my body. I felt a shiver run down my spine, and suddenly, I wasn't so sure that he wasn't drunk enough to make a move. I wrapped my arms around myself, trying to appear nonchalant, but my heart was racing. Adrian, however, seemed completely sober, his movements fluid and controlled as he grabbed a towel and began to dry off. I, on the other hand, was feeling decidedly unsteady, the joint still making its presence known in my system. The world seemed to spin around me, and I stumbled, almost falling over. Adrian caught me, his hands on my waist, holding me upright. For a moment, we just stood there, our faces inches apart, the only sound the distant music and laughter. I could feel his warm breath on my skin, and my heart skipped a beat. "Whoa, easy there," he said, his voice low and husky, his eyes locked on mine. "You okay?" I nodded, feeling a little breathless. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little...tipsy." Adrian chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "You're not exactly the most subtle person, cuz," he said, his voice dripping with amusement. "But I think I can handle it." I raised an eyebrow, feeling a spark of electricity run through me. What did he mean by that? Was he flirting with me? I couldn't quite tell, but I knew one thing - I was excited to find out.
