Chapter 6: The Teacher's Pet
Part 5
The Teacher's Pet Eric walked into his AP English class, feeling a mix of emotions. He was excited to see Maya, but he was also nervous about what might happen. They had parted ways the day before, after a lingering look that had left him breathless. Eric couldn't shake off the feeling that something was about to change between them, especially since Maya was now his teacher. As he took his seat, he scanned the room for Maya, who was standing at the front of the classroom, writing on the board. She turned around, and their eyes met, sparking a flutter in Eric's chest. He felt a little awkward, knowing that she was now his teacher, but he couldn't help the way he felt. Maya smiled, seemingly unfazed by the sudden tension in the room. "Good morning, class," she said, her voice confident and authoritative. "Today, we're going to discuss The Great Gatsby. Please take out your copies and let's get started." Eric tried to focus on the lesson, but his mind kept wandering back to their kiss the day before. He couldn't believe how natural it had felt, and he couldn't wait to see where things might go. But he was also aware of the power dynamic at play, with Maya being his teacher and all. As the class discussion went on, Eric found himself participating more than usual, trying to catch Maya's eye and gauge her reaction. She seemed to be treating him like any other student, but Eric couldn't help but feel like there was something more between them. After class, Maya asked Eric to stay behind, and he felt a surge of excitement. "Eric, I wanted to talk to you about your essay," she said, her voice low and husky. "I think you're on the right track, but I want to see more depth in your analysis." Eric nodded, trying to focus on the conversation, but his mind kept wandering back to their kiss. "I'll make sure to work on that," he said, trying to sound casual. Maya smiled, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "I'm looking forward to seeing your revisions," she said. "And Eric?" "Yes?" Eric replied, his heart racing with anticipation. "Let's keep this between us, for now," Maya said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I don't want to jeopardize my job, and I don't want to make things awkward in class." Eric nodded, feeling a mix of emotions. He knew that it was complicated, but he couldn't help the way he felt. "I understand," he said, his voice low and husky. As they stood there, the tension between them was palpable. Eric knew that he had to be careful, but he couldn't help but feel drawn to Maya. And as he left the classroom, he couldn't help but wonder what the future held for them.
