"A Moment of Vulnerability"
Part 52
As I continued to cry on Ochaco's shoulder, I slowly began to feel a sense of calm wash over me. Ochaco stroked my hair, speaking softly to try and comfort me. I didn't notice the door open again, but I could sense that it had. I tried to look up, but Ochaco held me tighter, her grip gentle but firm. "Shh, it's okay," she whispered. "Just let it all out." I sniffled and nodded, still crying. That's when I heard the sound of footsteps outside my room, followed by the murmur of voices. Mina's voice was the first one I recognized. "Guys, I think we should check on him," she said, her tone laced with concern. The voices grew quieter, and I could tell that they had gathered outside my room, listening in on our conversation. I felt a surge of embarrassment, realizing that I wasn't alone. Ochaco seemed to sense my tension and held me closer. "I think Mina must have told them to come check on you," Ochaco whispered, her voice soft and gentle. I heard the sound of footsteps again, this time from multiple people. The door creaked open, and I saw Mina standing in the doorway, a look of concern on her face. Behind her, I saw Bakugo, Deku, Todoroki, Shinso, Kirishima, and Kaminari, all of them looking at me with sympathetic expressions. But to my surprise, they didn't rush in or try to comfort me. Instead, they seemed to be frozen in place, listening to Ochaco and me. Mina nodded at Ochaco, as if to say "carry on", and then stepped back, letting the others peer into the room. Ochaco continued to hold me, speaking softly and reassuring me that everything would be okay. I felt a sense of gratitude towards her, knowing that she was there for me, even when I was at my most vulnerable. As I cried, I could sense the others listening, their faces etched with concern. But they didn't interrupt or try to comfort me. They just listened, letting Ochaco and me have our moment. It was a strange feeling, knowing that I had an audience, but at the same time, it was kind of nice to have them there, silently supporting me. Eventually, my tears began to subside, and I took a deep breath, feeling a little more composed. Ochaco smiled and handed me a tissue, which I gratefully accepted. "Thanks," I said, my voice still shaking. Ochaco smiled and nodded, and then looked up at the others, who were still standing in the doorway. "I think he's going to be okay," she said softly. The others nodded, still looking concerned, but they didn't say anything. Instead, they just turned and filed out of the room, leaving Ochaco and me alone once again. As the door closed behind them, Ochaco turned to me and smiled. "You okay now?" she asked. I nodded, feeling a little more at peace. "Yeah, thanks to you." Ochaco smiled and leaned in, giving me a gentle hug. "Anytime," she said. "That's what friends are for."
