The Family Legacy
Part 5
James stood in his father's study, the scent of old leather and smoke hanging heavy in the air. Lucien, his father, sat behind his desk, his eyes fixed intently on James. The room was dimly lit, with only a few rays of sunlight peeking through the heavy curtains. "James, I need you to do something for me," Lucien said, his voice low and commanding. James felt a sense of trepidation wash over him. He had been expecting this conversation, but he was still not sure what to expect. "What is it, Father?" James asked, trying to keep his voice neutral. Lucien leaned back in his chair, steepling his fingers together. "I need you to capture Amalia and bring her back to the estate," he said, his eyes glinting with a hint of urgency. James's heart skipped a beat as he processed his father's words. He had been growing increasingly uneasy about his father's plans, and now it seemed that he was being drawn deeper into the web of deceit. "Why?" James asked, trying to keep his voice steady. Lucien's expression turned cold, his eyes narrowing. "Amalia is a key part of our family's legacy, James. She has a role to play in our plans, and I need you to bring her back to the estate so that we can... educate her." James felt a surge of anger at his father's words, but he pushed it down, knowing that he had to tread carefully. He had always known that his family was involved in dark and mysterious things, but he had never been directly involved before. "And what about Elias?" James asked, trying to stall for time. Lucien's expression turned dismissive. "Leave Elias to me," he said. "I'll take care of him. You just focus on bringing Amalia back to the estate." James hesitated, feeling a sense of unease wash over him. He didn't want to hurt Amalia, but he also didn't want to cross his father. "I see," James said finally, trying to keep his voice neutral. "And what if she doesn't want to come?" Lucien's eyes glinted with a hint of menace. "I'm afraid that's not an option, James," he said. "Amalia needs to come back to the estate, one way or another." James felt a chill run down his spine as he realized the extent of his father's plans. He knew that he had to tread carefully, or risk facing the consequences. "I understand, Father," James said finally, trying to keep his voice steady. Lucien nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. "Good," he said. "I knew I could count on you, James. Now, go. Bring Amalia back to the estate, and let's get this legacy started." As James turned to leave, he caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror on the wall. He looked pale and drawn, and for a moment, he wondered what he had gotten himself into.
