Shadows and Whispers

Part 4

As the conversation ended, Mori turned and left Reiji's quarters, her gaze drifting away from his face as she departed. She moved with a quiet confidence, her footsteps light on the floor. Reiji watched her go, his mind whirling with questions, but Mori didn't look back. She made her way to the living room, where the others were lounging on the plush furniture. Laito was reclining on the couch, his eyes fixed on the ceiling as he lazily toyed with a strand of his hair. Subaru sat beside him, her legs tucked under her, a book open in her lap. Shuu leaned against the armchair, his eyes narrowed as he listened to Kanato's quiet monologue. Ayato sat on the floor, his back against the coffee table, a look of boredom etched on his face. Mori entered the room, her eyes scanning the space with a hint of disinterest. She barely acknowledged the others, her gaze flicking over them before coming to rest on some point beyond them. The only exception was Ayato, who received a swift punch to the arm, making him wince. "Ow, what the...?" Ayato began, but Mori had already moved on, taking a seat in the empty chair across from them. She didn't bother to explain her actions or make small talk, simply sitting down as if she had always been there. The others exchanged glances, but no one spoke. Laito raised an eyebrow, intrigued by Mori's behavior, while Subaru watched her with a curious expression. Shuu's eyes lingered on Mori's face, his gaze searching for any hidden meaning behind her actions. Kanato, however, simply continued his conversation, seemingly oblivious to Mori's presence. Ayato rubbed his sore arm, shooting Mori a look of annoyance, but she didn't react, her attention already drifting away from him. The air was filled with an awkward silence, as if the group was waiting for Mori to make the next move. But for now, she simply sat, her eyes fixed on some distant point, her expression enigmatic.
