Chapter 30: A Surprise for Everyone

The day of the ultrasound appointment arrived, and Maya couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and nervousness as she and Sean sat in the waiting room, flipping through old magazines. They had been waiting for this moment for what felt like an eternity, and finally, they were going to find out the sex of their baby. Sean took Maya's hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "Are you ready for this?" he asked, his eyes sparkling with anticipation. Maya nodded, her heart racing with excitement. "I was born ready," she replied, smiling. The technician called them in, and they followed her to a small room with a large ultrasound machine. Maya lay down on the table, and the technician applied a gel to her stomach before moving the wand over her belly. Sean stood beside her, holding her hand as they watched the monitor. The technician pointed out different parts of the baby's body, explaining what they were seeing. Maya and Sean listened intently, their eyes glued to the screen. And then, the technician said something that made their jaws drop in unison. "You are having twins," she announced, a smile spreading across her face. Maya's eyes widened in shock as she turned to Sean. "Twins?" she whispered, her voice trembling. Sean's face lit up with a wide grin. "We're having twins!" he exclaimed, his voice filled with excitement. The technician continued, "And I think I can tell you that you're having a boy and a girl." Maya and Sean looked at each other, both of them beaming with joy. They were having twins, a boy and a girl. Just then, Sean's phone buzzed with a text from his ex-wife, Alex. "Hey, just a reminder that it's your weekend with Maddy," she wrote. Sean's face lit up with a smile. "Maddy's coming over today," he said, his eyes sparkling with excitement. Maya's heart skipped a beat. She had been looking forward to meeting Sean's two-year-old daughter, but now she was a little nervous. What if Maddy didn't take to her? As if on cue, the doorbell rang. Sean got up to answer it, and Maya heard the sound of Maddy's chatter and laughter as she followed Sean into the room. Maddy's eyes widened as she took in Maya's pregnant belly. "Mommy's tummy is big!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with excitement. Sean knelt down beside her. "We're going to tell you a secret, Maddy," he said, his eyes sparkling with excitement. Maddy's eyes lit up with curiosity. "What is it?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Sean took a deep breath. "Mommy and I are having babies," he announced, his voice filled with excitement. Maddy's face lit up with a wide grin. "Yay!" she exclaimed, bouncing up and down. "I get to be a big sister!" Maya's heart swelled with love as she watched Maddy's reaction. She was going to be a mom, and Maddy was going to be a big sister. Just then, Alex appeared at the door, a look of disapproval on her face. "What's all the commotion about?" she asked, her voice dripping with judgment. Sean stood up, his eyes locked onto Alex's. "We just found out that Maya and I are having twins, a boy and a girl," he announced, his voice filled with excitement. Alex's face turned red with anger. "You're having more kids?" she spat, her voice venomous. "You're not even married yet." Maya felt a surge of anger at Alex's tone, but before she could respond, Maddy piped up. "Mommy," she said, her voice clear as day. Alex's eyes narrowed, her face turning red with rage. "Maddy, don't call her that," she snapped, her voice cold. Maddy looked up at Maya, her eyes shining with love. "Mommy," she repeated, her voice firm. Alex's face turned purple with anger, but Maya stood her ground, her heart swelling with love for the little girl who had just called her mommy.
