Morning After

Part 3

The warm sunlight streaming through the window gently roused Nick from his sleep, and as he opened his eyes, he was met with the beautiful sight of Maya lying beside him, her chest rising and falling with each gentle breath. He smiled, feeling a sense of relief and happiness wash over him. The guilt that had been weighing on him for the past day seemed to have lifted, and he knew that making amends with Maya had been the right decision. As he lay there, he couldn't help but notice the gentle curve of her neck, the softness of her skin, and the way her hair cascaded down her back like a waterfall of night. He felt his body stir, and he knew that he was already falling in love with her all over again. Maya stirred, sensing Nick's gaze on her, and she opened her eyes, smiling softly as she saw him looking at her. "Good morning," she whispered, her voice husky from sleep. Nick smiled back, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Good morning," he replied, his voice low and rough. The two of them lay there for a moment, just looking at each other, the tension between them palpable. Then, Maya spoke up, her voice breaking the silence. "I'm sorry about yesterday," she said, her eyes searching his face. "I know I overreacted, but you just caught me off guard." Nick shook his head, his eyes never leaving hers. "You didn't overreact, Maya. I was a jerk, and I deserved to be called out on it." He paused, taking a deep breath. "I promise it won't happen again. At least, not with you and Sabrina. You two are the most important women in my life, and I wouldn't want to jeopardize our relationships for anything." Maya smiled, her eyes shining with tears. "I appreciate that, Nick. And I'm sorry too. I know I can be a bit possessive sometimes, but it's only because I care so much about you." Nick's face softened, and he reached out, pulling Maya into his arms. "I care about you too, Maya. More than you'll ever know." As they hugged, Nick heard a knock at the door. It was Sabrina, calling out to ask if they were okay. Maya pulled back, smiling, and Nick nodded, his eyes never leaving hers. "Yeah, we're fine," Maya called out, her voice muffled by the door. Sabrina's voice was relieved. "Okay, good. I was worried about you two. I'll let you get some breakfast, but we need to talk later, okay?" Maya nodded, even though Sabrina couldn't see her. "Okay, sounds good." As the door closed, Nick and Maya looked at each other, smiling. They knew that they still had a lot to work through, but for now, they were just happy to be together. Nick stood up, pulling Maya into his arms. "How about we get some breakfast?" he suggested, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "I heard there's a great café down the street that serves amazing pancakes." Maya laughed, her eyes shining with amusement. "You're buying, right?" Nick grinned, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Of course, I'm buying. I'm a reformed man, after all." Together, they got dressed and headed out to grab some breakfast, feeling like a new beginning was just around the corner.
