"Unraveling the Past"
Part 82
The air was still thick with tension as Noah's eyes locked onto Jacquie's, his mind racing with the implications of what she had just revealed. "I don't understand," he said, his voice laced with confusion. "If this car accident was so traumatic, why did it only affect you now? What about your other pregnancies? You had no complications, no issues with any of them." Jacquie's eyes dropped, and she fidgeted with her hands, her voice barely above a whisper. "I don't know, Noah. I've been asking myself that same question for years. I've always felt like there was something...off...about my memories of that night, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it." Sophia's eyes were fixed on Jacquie, her expression a mixture of concern and curiosity. "I've always wondered why you were so distant after that night," she said, her voice soft. "You just...shut down. You wouldn't talk about what happened, and I didn't push you. I just assumed you were still shaken up from the accident." Jacquie's eyes flashed with a hint of anger, but it was quickly extinguished, replaced by a look of sadness. "I was trying to protect you, Sophia. I was trying to protect myself. I didn't know how to deal with what happened, so I just...blocked it out." Noah's eyes narrowed, his mind still racing with questions. "But what about the other pregnancies? You had three other children after that night, and you had no complications with any of them. Why did this one affect you so differently?" Jacquie's eyes locked onto Noah's, and for a moment, he thought he saw a flash of fear. "I don't know," she repeated. "I've always felt like there was something...different...about this pregnancy. Something that I couldn't quite explain." Sophia's voice was barely above a whisper. "Do you think it's connected to...to what happened to Emily?" Jacquie's face went white, and for a moment, Noah thought she was going to collapse. "I don't know," she whispered. "But I have a feeling that we're just starting to scratch the surface of something much bigger than we ever could have imagined."
