Chapter 29: Facing the Truth

Part 29

The next morning, I woke up feeling refreshed and renewed, Erwin's arms still wrapped around me. We had spent the rest of the evening talking about our future, making plans and dreams for our life together. But as much as I wanted to stay in that bubble, I knew I couldn't avoid the conversation with Captain Levi any longer. I gently extracted myself from Erwin's arms and got out of bed, determination coursing through my veins. I headed to the bathroom to get ready for the day, my mind focused on the task ahead. Erwin joined me a few minutes later, his eyes watching me with a mixture of concern and support. We exchanged a gentle kiss, and I took a deep breath, steeling myself for what was to come. As we headed to the kitchen for breakfast, I could feel Erwin's eyes on me, his presence a comforting reminder that I wasn't alone. I knew that no matter what happened, he would be there for me, supporting me every step of the way. But as we sat down to eat, my stomach began to twist with anxiety. I had been putting off this conversation for too long, and I knew that it was only fair to Captain Levi that I be honest with him. I took a deep breath, my heart racing with anticipation. Erwin seemed to sense my unease, and he reached out to put a reassuring hand on my knee. "You can do this, Kenzy," he said, his voice low and gentle. "Just be honest with him, and let him know how you feel." I nodded, feeling a surge of gratitude towards Erwin. He was right, of course. I needed to be honest with Captain Levi, no matter how difficult it might be. As we finished breakfast, I stood up, my heart pounding in my chest. "I'm going to go talk to him now," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. Erwin nodded, his eyes locked on mine. "I'll be here, waiting for you," he said, his voice filled with conviction. "No matter what happens, I'll be here for you." I smiled, feeling a wave of love and gratitude towards him. "Thank you," I said, my voice filled with emotion. With a deep breath, I turned and walked out of the room, my heart pounding in my chest. I knew that this conversation wouldn't be easy, but I was ready to face the truth, no matter what it might bring. As I made my way to Captain Levi's office, I couldn't help but think about the what-ifs. What if he was angry? What if he didn't care? What if... I pushed the thoughts aside, focusing on the task at hand. I took a deep breath, knocked on the door, and waited for his response. "Come in," his voice called out, a hint of irritation in his tone. I took another deep breath, steeling myself for what was to come, and pushed open the door. Captain Levi looked up from the papers on his desk, his eyes narrowing as he took in my expression. "What's on your mind, Kenzy?" he asked, his voice firm but curious. I took a deep breath, my heart racing with anticipation. "We need to talk," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. Captain Levi's expression turned serious, his eyes locked on mine. "Okay," he said, his voice low and gentle. "Let's talk."
