Chapter 4: A Taste of Reality

Part 4

The sound of Bangchan's satisfied sigh as he finished Hyunjin's sandwich lingered in the air, leaving Hyunjin feeling a mix of frustration and disappointment. He tried to brush it off, focusing on making himself another sandwich, but the sting of being treated like a servant still lingered. As he worked, Bangchan seemed to have forgotten about him, too engrossed in his phone to notice Hyunjin's presence. Hyunjin couldn't help but wonder if this was how his days would go - catering to Bangchan's every whim without any regard for his own needs or feelings. Just as Hyunjin was about to plate his sandwich, Bangchan looked up, his eyes scanning the kitchen until they landed on Hyunjin. "Ah, you're still here," he said, a hint of surprise in his voice. Hyunjin nodded, trying to keep his tone neutral. "Yes, sir. I was just about to eat." Bangchan nodded, seeming to remember something. "Right, you're my bodyguard. I suppose you're entitled to a break." He walked over to the counter, his eyes lingering on Hyunjin's sandwich. "What's that you've made?" Hyunjin hesitated, unsure if he should offer Bangchan a bite again. "Just a sandwich, sir." Bangchan's eyes lit up, and he reached out, snatching the sandwich from Hyunjin's hands. "I'll try it," he said, taking a big bite. Hyunjin watched in frustration as Bangchan devoured his sandwich, feeling a pang of hunger and annoyance. He tried to remind himself that he was in this role to protect Bangchan, not to be his personal chef. As Bangchan finished the sandwich, he nodded in approval. "Not bad. You're a decent cook." Hyunjin forced a smile, trying to keep his cool. "Thank you, sir." Bangchan seemed to notice Hyunjin's frustration, and for a moment, his expression softened. "Listen, I know I can be a bit...much sometimes," he said, his voice low. "But I'm under a lot of pressure, and I need someone I can trust to watch my back." Hyunjin nodded, feeling a glimmer of understanding. "I understand, sir. I'm here to protect you." Bangchan nodded, seeming to accept Hyunjin's response. "Good. Now, let's get one thing straight - I'm not trying to treat you like a servant. I just get caught up in my own world sometimes." Hyunjin nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over him. Maybe, just maybe, this job wouldn't be as difficult as he thought. As they finished their meal, Bangchan's phone buzzed, and he answered it, his expression turning serious. "I have to go," he said, turning to Hyunjin. "Stay here and keep an eye on things. I'll be back soon." Hyunjin nodded, watching as Bangchan disappeared out the door. He was left alone in the kitchen, wondering what lay ahead and what kind of challenges he would face as Bangchan's bodyguard. The silence was oppressive, and Hyunjin's instincts went on high alert, his senses scanning the surroundings for any signs of danger. He knew that in his line of work, complacency was a luxury he couldn't afford.
