A Dinner Invitation

Part 22

"Yeah..." Izuku nods, and I could swear he just let out a snicker. "Then... when the others want to, let's have dinner all together!" I smile softly, although I know it will never happen. The dynamics between Bakugou, Midoriya, and me are just too complicated. "I'd like that," I say, trying to sound casual. "It would be nice to have a meal together, without any... interruptions." I glance at Midoriya, who's watching us with a mixture of curiosity and wariness. Izuku grins, seeming to sense the tension. "I'll ask Katsuki-kun and the others, okay?" he says, his eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. I nod, feeling a pang of nostalgia. In my previous life, I used to have sleepovers and dinner parties with my friends all the time. It's been a while since I've had a chance to relax with people my own age. As we walk back to my house, Midoriya trailing behind us, I start to think about dinner. I hope Mother has prepared something simple, but so far, she's been gracious about Izuku's visit. When we arrive, Mother greets us warmly and ushers us to the dinner table. The food looks amazing, and my stomach growls in anticipation. Midoriya is his usual shy self, squeaking and stammering as he tries to participate in the conversation. I try to draw him out, asking him questions about his day and his interests. Izuku chimes in, regaling us with stories of his adventures with Bakugou. I listen intently, smiling and nodding along. As dinner progresses, I start to get distracted by the food. There's a delicious-smelling roast chicken, and I help myself to seconds. Mother shoots me a reproving glance from across the table, but I just grin and take another bite. When dinner is finally over, Izuku thanks Mother at least four times for the meal, his face flushed with gratitude. I smile, feeling a little embarrassed on his behalf. "You're welcome, Izuku," Mother says, smiling back at him. "Come back anytime." As we finish up, I suggest that Izuku come to my room to play. It's been ages since I've had a playmate over, and I'm curious to see what kids do these days. Izuku's face lights up, and he bounds up the stairs after me. My room is a bit of a mess, with toys and books scattered all over the floor. Izuku's eyes widen as he takes in the sight of my collection of hero action figures. "Wow!" he exclaims, his voice full of awe. I grin, feeling a little self-conscious. It's not that I'm a huge fan of heroes, per se, but... well, it's hard not to be charmed by All Might's charisma. Izuku makes a beeline for the figures, his eyes scanning the collection. "All Might! And Deku! And... and... Hawks!" He picks up the Hawks figure, holding it reverently in his hands. I smile, feeling a sense of nostalgia wash over me. It's going to be interesting, having Izuku around.
