Deteriorating Conditions

Part 6

Link lay in bed, his sheets drenched in sweat. It had been a few days since the incident where he had to be sedated, and his condition had only worsened. He couldn't shake off the feeling that something was crawling under his skin, and he kept hearing whispers in his ear when no one was around. At first, the whispers were faint, but they had grown louder and more urgent over the past few days. Link couldn't make out what was being said, but the voice was always there, nagging at him, making him feel on edge. He looked over at Zelda, who was lying in her bed, her face pale and clammy. Her speech was slurred, and she struggled to form coherent sentences. "L-Link... help me," she stammered, her eyes cloudy with confusion. Link's heart sank as he saw the state of her feet. Her left foot was covered in a bright red rash, blisters forming on each of her toes. Her breathing was shallow and labored, and her chest rose and fell with a slow, uneven rhythm. "Zelda, what's happening to us?" Link asked, his voice shaking with fear. Zelda tried to respond, but her words were barely intelligible. "M-must... get... out... of... here," she stammered, her eyes darting wildly around the room. Doctor Raymer entered the room, his face grim with concern. "Link, I need to take a closer look at you," he said, his eyes scanning Link's sweaty face. "And Zelda, I'm going to get you some medication to help with that rash." As the doctor began to examine Link, he noticed that his pupils were dilated, and his heart rate was racing. "Link, I'm going to need to run some more tests," he said, his voice firm but worried. Link nodded, feeling a sense of dread wash over him. He knew that their condition was getting worse, and he had no idea what was causing it. The doctor turned to Zelda, who was struggling to breathe. "We need to get her on oxygen," he said to one of the nurses, who quickly moved to attach an oxygen mask to Zelda's face. As the nurse worked to stabilize Zelda, Link couldn't shake off the feeling that they were running out of time. The whispers in his ear grew louder, more urgent, and he felt himself being pulled towards some dark and unknown place. He looked over at Zelda, who was fighting to breathe, and he knew that he had to hold on. He had to find a way to save them, to stop whatever was happening to them. But as he lay there, surrounded by the sterile hospital equipment, he couldn't shake off the feeling that they were already too far gone.
