"A New Perspective"

Part 7

A few months had passed since our romantic getaway to Napa Valley, and life had settled into a comfortable routine. Avan and I were still trying for a baby, and the process was taking longer than we had hoped. We had started ICSI treatments, and the anticipation was building. Our daily lives were filled with doctor's appointments, injections, and endless discussions about the what-ifs. Despite the challenges, our love for each other only grew stronger. One day, as we were walking through the park, we ran into Ender's family. They were having a picnic, and Ender, our energetic and lovable golden retriever, was running around, playing with his favorite ball. As we approached, Ender's tail started wagging excitedly, and he ran towards us, jumping up and down. Avan and I exchanged a laugh, and I reached down to pet Ender. As we stood there, Ender's owner, a kind old man, approached us. "Avan, Ashley, it's great to see you both," he said with a warm smile. "I've been meaning to ask, how's the baby planning going?" Avan and I exchanged a glance, and I could see the excitement in his eyes. "We're still trying," Avan said, "but it's taking a bit longer than we expected." The old man nodded sympathetically. "I'm sure it'll happen when the time is right. In the meantime, Ender here has taken quite a liking to you two. He's always talking about his 'daddy' Avan." I chuckled, and Avan smiled, scratching Ender behind the ears. "I think Ender has a special bond with us," I said. As we continued to chat, I noticed that Ender was gazing up at Avan with an uncanny adoration. It was as if he saw Avan as a father figure, and it warmed my heart. As we walked away, Avan turned to me and said, "You know, I think Ender has started to see me as his dad." I smiled, and we both laughed. It was a small but significant realization. Ender had become an integral part of our lives, and his affection for Avan was genuine. That evening, as we sat on the couch, Ender curled up beside us, Avan turned to me and said, "You know, I've been thinking. Whether or not we have a biological child, I feel like we're already parents to Ender. He's brought so much joy into our lives." I nodded in agreement, feeling a sense of contentment. As we looked into each other's eyes, I knew that our journey to parenthood was not just about having a biological child but about building a family, with or without one. And with Avan by my side, I felt ready to face whatever the future held.
