Reunion of the Living and the Dead
Part 36
James's eyes widened in shock as he stared at the trio standing before him, his mind struggling to comprehend the scene unfolding before his very eyes. Victoria, the love of his life, the one he had mourned for so long, stood before him, alive and seemingly well. His gaze darted to Doc and Myra, who stood on either side of her, their faces etched with concern. "N-no! You're dead!" James stuttered, taking a step back, his eyes fixed on Victoria as if she were a ghost. "Not another impostor, demon! Doppelganger! Stay away!" He raised his hands, palms facing Victoria, as if warding her off. Victoria's expression was a mix of sadness and frustration. "James... It's complicated..." she began, her voice low and soothing. "Your Victoria may be dead, but I'm still here. Please... These two had rescued me from certain death." She nodded towards Doc and Myra, who stood silently behind her. James's gaze flickered to Doc and Myra, and for a moment, he seemed to consider their presence. But his eyes snapped back to Victoria, his mind still reeling with the implications of what he was seeing. Victoria took a step forward, her movements fluid and confident. She slipped off her coat, revealing a low-cut tee that accentuated her curves. James's eyes widened as he took in the sight, but his gaze was drawn to her neck. A scar marred her throat, a jagged line that seemed to pulse with a life of its own. "Victoria... That scar," James stammered, his eyes fixed on the wound. "What would they say? You're dead... Your body's being examined..." His voice trailed off, lost in a sea of questions and doubts. Victoria's eyes locked onto James's, a deep sadness welling up within them. She reached out a hand, her fingers extended, as if pleading with him to understand. "James, I know this is hard to believe, but I'm telling you the truth. I'm alive, and I need your help to uncover the truth behind my... situation." James's face was a mask of confusion and fear, his mind struggling to reconcile the Victoria he thought he knew with the one standing before him. He took a step back, his eyes darting between Victoria, Doc, and Myra, as if searching for answers that seemed elusive.
