Chapter 23: Descent into Madness

Part 22

Ashley's eyes fluttered open, and she was met with a wave of pain and discomfort. She was lying in the backseat of a car, and her body felt like it had been put through a wringer. She tried to sit up, but a sharp pain shot through her abdomen, and she fell back onto the seat. She vaguely remembered the events of the past few days, or at least she thought she did. The memories were hazy and unclear, but she recalled the feeling of Kody's knife cutting into her skin, and the sensation of her hair being hacked off. As she looked down at herself, she saw that her hair was indeed cut short, and there were several cuts on her arms and torso. She tried to recall how she got there, but her mind was foggy. She vaguely remembered being in the room, and the dead baby on the windowsill. The image made her stomach churn, and she felt a wave of nausea wash over her. She tried to move again, and this time she managed to sit up. She looked around, taking in her surroundings. They were driving down a deserted road, and Kody was behind the wheel. She felt a surge of fear as she realized she was at his mercy. As she looked down at her abdomen, she saw that it was swollen and tender to the touch. She knew she had an infection, and she needed medical attention. But she was trapped with Kody, and she had no idea what he had planned for her. She remembered the days leading up to this moment. Kody had been coming into the room, cutting her with a knife, and taunting her. She had lost all sense of time, and she had given up hope. But now, as she looked around, she saw a glimmer of possibility. They were driving, and that meant they were going somewhere. Maybe she could escape, or maybe someone would see her and help her. Ashley's eyes welled up with tears as she thought about her babies, and the life she had lost. She was a shell of her former self, and she didn't know if she could ever go back to being the person she once was. But for now, she had to focus on survival. She had to find a way to escape, and to get the help she so desperately needed. As the car drove on, Ashley steeled herself for what was to come. She knew it wouldn't be easy, but she was determined to survive. She would find a way to escape, no matter what it took. And she would make sure that Kody paid for what he had done to her.
