Chapter 1: "The Unwanted Union"

Part 1

Vincenzo "Vinnie" LaRosa stared out at the frozen lake, his gaze piercing through the icy mist that rose from the water. He stood at the edge of the frozen lake, his black leather gloves gripping the railing of the balcony as if it was the only thing keeping him upright. The crisp winter air stung his face, but he welcomed the numbness it brought. Behind him, the lavish mansion he was forced to call home seemed to mock him with its opulence. He had never been one for fancy things, content with his simple, yet lucrative life as a made man in the cold mafia. But all of that had changed when his "business associate" had informed him of his new reality. Vinnie's thoughts drifted back to the conversation that had changed everything. He had been summoned to a meeting with the Don himself, where he was told that he would be marrying the daughter of a prominent social media influencer. Alexandra "Lexi" Thompson was her name, and she was the kind of woman who commanded attention wherever she went. Vinnie had seen pictures of her, with her porcelain skin and raven-black hair. She was a vision of beauty, but he knew that this marriage was nothing more than a business arrangement. The Don had made it clear that this union would strengthen ties between their organizations and secure a profitable partnership. Vinnie had tried to protest, but his words had fallen on deaf ears. The Don's decision was final, and Vinnie was left with no choice but to comply. As he stood on the balcony, he heard the door open behind him. He didn't turn around, sensing that it was Lexi. He could feel her presence, even if he couldn't see her. "Vincent," she said, her voice husky and confident. "I see you're enjoying the view." Vinnie turned to face her, his expression neutral. Lexi stood in the doorway, a vision in her white fur coat and matching boots. Her eyes sparkled with amusement as she took in his rugged appearance. "Lexi," he replied, his deep voice a stark contrast to her sugary sweet tone. "I was just taking in the sights." Lexi sauntered towards him, her heels clicking on the marble floor. "I hope you're not getting too comfortable," she said, her voice laced with sarcasm. "We'll be getting married in a few days, and I expect you to put on a good show." Vinnie raised an eyebrow, his eyes narrowing slightly. "A show?" Lexi nodded, a bright smile spreading across her face. "For the cameras, darling. My father's followers love a good romance, and we'll need to give them a show they'll never forget." Vinnie's gut twisted at the thought of pretending to be in love with Lexi. He had a feeling that this marriage was going to be a long and difficult ride.
