"The Avatar's Ego"
Part 1
Korra stood in front of the mirror, gazing at her reflection. Her piercing blue eyes sparkled with a sense of pride and accomplishment. She was the Avatar, the bridge between the physical and spiritual worlds. She had saved the world from Amon, Unalaq, and Vaatu, and had brought balance and harmony to the four nations. As she flexed her arms, her muscles rippled beneath her sleeve. She was strong, fast, and agile. She could bend the elements with ease, and had mastered the ancient art of energybending. She was the most powerful person on the planet, and she knew it. Korra's thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door. It was her best friend, Asami. "Hey, Korra! I'm here to take you out for lunch," Asami said, her eyes scanning Korra's face. "You look...different today. What's going on?" Korra smiled, her eyes gleaming with a newfound confidence. "I'm just feeling really good about myself, Asami. I mean, I'm the Avatar. I'm the one who keeps this world safe. I'm the one who brings people together." Asami raised an eyebrow. "Korra, you're not getting a big head or anything, are you?" Korra laughed. "Of course not! I'm just...aware of my abilities. I'm aware of my destiny." Asami sighed. "Okay, well, let's go get some lunch then. But try to keep your feet on the ground, okay?" Korra nodded, but as she walked with Asami to the restaurant, she couldn't shake off the feeling of superiority. She felt like she was on top of the world, and that nothing could bring her down. As they sat down at a table, Korra noticed the patrons staring at her. They whispered to each other, pointing at her. Korra smiled, feeling a sense of satisfaction. She was a celebrity, after all. She was the Avatar. The waiter came over to take their order, and Korra demanded to be served the best dishes on the menu. Asami rolled her eyes, but Korra just winked at her. "Hey, I'm the Avatar. I deserve the best." As they waited for their food to arrive, Korra began to notice the other patrons staring at her even more. They seemed to be in awe of her, and Korra lapped up the attention like a hungry dog. Asami leaned in, her voice low. "Korra, seriously, you need to watch yourself. You're starting to sound like a dictator or something." Korra just laughed, her eyes glinting with amusement. "Oh, Asami. You're just jealous because you're not the Avatar." Asami's eyes narrowed. "I'm not jealous, Korra. I'm worried about you. You're changing, and I don't like it." Korra waved her hand dismissively. "I'm fine, Asami. I'm just...evolving. I'm becoming the Avatar I was meant to be." The food arrived, and Korra dug in with gusto. She was the Avatar, and she was going to enjoy every moment of it. But as she looked around at the staring faces, she began to wonder...was she losing herself in her role as the Avatar? And what would happen if she let her ego consume her completely?
