Frozen in Fear
Part 3
Melody felt like her brain was short-circuiting. She was always a bubbly person, in fact, the only people she didn't get along with was her own family, but what was she to do? Should she try to hide? Or stay still like a rock. The hand on her shoulder was firm, but not unkind, and it sent a shiver down her spine. She tried to shake it off, but it only tightened its grip. "Who are you?" Melody demanded, trying to keep her voice steady, but it came out shaky. She slowly turned around, trying not to make any sudden movements, and that's when she saw him. He was tall, with piercing green eyes that seemed to bore into her soul. His hair was dark and messy, and his skin had a warm, golden glow. The stranger's eyes seemed to hold a deep sadness, and for a moment, Melody felt a pang of sympathy for him. But then she remembered the message, the cave, and the feeling of being trapped, and her fear took over. She tried to step back, but his grip on her shoulder didn't loosen. "Don't be afraid," he said, his voice low and soothing. "I'm not going to hurt you." He paused, studying her face. "You're Harmony, aren't you?" Melody's eyes widened in surprise. "How do you know my name?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady. The stranger smiled, and for a moment, Melody saw a glimmer of kindness in his eyes. "I've been watching you," he said. "I've been waiting for you." Melody's fear turned to anger. "What do you want from me?" she demanded. The stranger's smile faded, and he looked at her with a serious expression. "I want to help you," he said. "You're in danger, Harmony. You don't know what's going on, do you?" Melody shook her head, feeling a sense of unease. "No, I don't," she admitted. The stranger nodded. "I can explain," he said. "But first, we need to get out of here. This cave isn't safe." Melody hesitated, unsure of what to do. But something about the stranger's words resonated with her. She nodded, and he released his grip on her shoulder. "Follow me," he said, turning to lead her out of the cave. As they walked, Melody couldn't help but notice the way the stranger moved with a quiet confidence, as if he knew the cave like the back of his hand. She felt a sense of trust growing inside her, but she pushed it aside, reminding herself that she didn't know this person. They finally emerged from the cave, and Melody blinked in the bright moonlight. The stranger turned to her, and for a moment, they just looked at each other. "My name is Rowan," he said, his voice low and gentle. "And you, Harmony, are in a lot more trouble than you think."
