"A Familiar Yet Unfamiliar Past"
Part 39
Emma's eyes remained fixed on Myra and Doc, her mind racing with memories of a timeline she had once visited. It was a surreal experience, one that she couldn't shake off even now. In that timeline, Doc and Natalie had ended up together, and Emma had been witness to their relationship. She remembered how cute they were, but also how incompatible they seemed. Doc's flamboyant personality had clashed with Natalie's more reserved nature, and yet, they had made it work. As Emma reflected on that timeline, she couldn't help but think about how different things had turned out. In this reality, Natalie was with her, and Emma felt a deep connection with her partner. She recalled the spark of attraction she had felt when she first met Natalie, and how it had grown into something more. But Emma had also seen a different side of Natalie in that timeline, one that was more vulnerable and open with Doc. Emma had been surprised by how well they had meshed, despite their differences. She had even caught herself feeling a pang of jealousy, which had been confusing given that she was already with Natalie in her own timeline. Emma's gaze drifted back to Natalie, who was watching her with a curious expression. "What's going on, Em?" Natalie asked, her voice soft. Emma hesitated, unsure of how to broach the subject. She had never told Natalie about the timeline she had visited, about how she had seen her partner with Doc. It had seemed surreal and insignificant at the time, but now, with Myra and Doc standing before them, Emma felt a pang of uncertainty. Myra, sensing Emma's gaze, turned and smiled. "Hey, Emma," she said, her voice warm. "It's been a while." Emma smiled back, feeling a mix of emotions. She was happy to see Myra, but also wary of what their presence might mean. "Myra," she replied, her voice cautious. Doc, standing beside Myra, grinned at Emma. "Hey, girl," he said, his voice booming. "We didn't mean to interrupt your little nap." Natalie shifted in Emma's lap, her eyes narrowing slightly. "Who are these people?" she asked, her voice firm. Emma hesitated, unsure of how to explain. She glanced at Myra and Doc, trying to gauge their intentions. "We have a bit of a history," Emma said finally, her voice vague. Myra chuckled. "That's an understatement," she said, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "But I think it's time we filled you in on what's been going on."
