Chapter 1: The Uninvited Guest
Part 1
The sun was setting over the small town of Santa Cecilia, casting a warm orange glow over the cobblestone streets and colorful buildings. Luisa and Enrique Rivera were busy preparing for the annual Día de los Muertos celebration, which was just around the corner. Luisa, with her superhuman strength, was effortlessly lifting and moving heavy crates of marigolds and papel picado, while Enrique, with his charming smile, was helping their abuela, Imelda, cook traditional dishes in the kitchen. As they worked, the doorbell rang, signaling the arrival of an unexpected visitor. Imelda wiped her hands on her apron and made her way to the door, curious about who could be visiting at this hour. She opened the door to find a stranger standing on their porch, dressed in a long, black coat and a wide-brimmed hat. "Can I help you?" Imelda asked, her tone friendly but cautious. The stranger removed his hat, revealing a mischievous grin and piercing green eyes. "I'm looking for the Rivera family," he said, his voice low and smooth. "I've heard so much about your... unique talents." Luisa and Enrique exchanged a curious glance, sensing that something was off about this stranger. Imelda, however, invited him in, offering him a cup of atole and a seat at the table. As they sat down, the stranger introduced himself as Héctor, a traveling musician and acquaintance of a mutual friend. He regaled them with stories of his adventures on the road, his eyes sparkling with a hint of mischief. Luisa, ever the skeptic, couldn't shake off the feeling that there was more to Héctor's story than he was letting on. She kept a close eye on him, her strength at the ready, just in case. Enrique, on the other hand, was charmed by Héctor's charismatic personality and began to open up to him, sharing stories of their family's history and traditions. Imelda, sensing a kindred spirit, offered him a warm smile and a plate of her famous pan de muerto. As the evening wore on, Héctor's stories became more and more outlandish, leaving Luisa and Enrique wondering if they had made a mistake inviting this stranger into their home. But Imelda seemed to sense something in Héctor that they didn't, and she continued to treat him with kindness and hospitality. As the night drew to a close, Héctor thanked them for their generosity and stood up to leave, his eyes glinting with a hint of secrets and surprises. "I'll be seeing you soon, Rivera family," he said, with a nod and a smile. And with that, he disappeared into the night, leaving Luisa, Enrique, and Imelda to wonder what they had just gotten themselves into.
