A Volatile Confrontation

Part 28

"Yes," I nod, with the most passive-aggressive smile I can muster. "We know. Everyone knows. I think even All Might knows. So you can stop shouting it to the world before you make all of us deaf." The kindergarten playground falls silent, with all eyes fixed on us. A lot of kids' mouths drop open, while others pale and yet others look like they understand nothing of the situation. Izuku is staring straight at me, his eyes wide with a mix of shock and concern, and he's faintly trembling. Bakugou's eyes narrow, his face reddening with anger. I can almost see the steam rising from his scalp as he takes a step closer to me. Then, in a flash of explosive fury, he unleashes his quirk, setting off a blast of fire that erupts right in my face. Lovely. I leap back, escaping it by a whisker. Luckily for me, I was expecting it: the blond is at least predictable enough. Who knows if he already starts his fights with a right hook... It seems so, 'cause the moment he realizes I aren't hurt by his oh so magnificent quirk, he takes a step back (finally not straight-on jumping on top of me, he's doing progress), and lunges forward with his right hook raised. I dodge, lowering my body to the ground; then, taking a page from his book, I throw myself over him. Very bad move, I realize after a second, since now he's got free reign to blast my brains out. The world spins around us as I struggle to maintain my balance, Bakugou's angry face inches from mine. I can feel his hot breath on my skin, and his eyes are blazing with fury. Just as it seems like things can't get any worse, a loud voice cuts through the chaos. "Children!" The caretaker's voice snaps us out of our fight. "What are you doing? You know you can't fight!" I immediately stand up, bowing politely as I dust off my dress. Bakugou, still fuming, glares at me before turning to face the caretaker, his chest heaving with exertion. Izuku looks on, his eyes wide with worry, while the other kids watch with a mixture of fascination and fear. The kindergarten playground has never been more tense.
