**The Shadows of Eldrid**

Part 5

As Princess Zelda navigated the grand halls of the castle, the sound of music and laughter drifted through the air, mingling with the clinking of glasses and the soft hum of conversation. The Royal Banquet was in full swing, and the guests were all chatting and enjoying themselves. The main hall was filled with opulent decorations, including intricately carved candelabras, lavish tapestries, and sparkling chandeliers that refracted the light into a kaleidoscope of colors. Zelda's gaze drifted across the room, taking in the familiar faces of the nobles and dignitaries. But it was the servants and staff members that caught her attention, whispering to each other in huddled groups. She noticed a young knight, Sir Trevor, chatting with a fellow servant, Rachel, as they both poured wine into the guests' glasses. Sir Trevor, a tall and lanky young man with a mop of messy brown hair, leaned in close to Rachel and whispered, "I'm telling you, the seventh space has been waiting for far too long. It's a travesty that we've had no one sitting there, guiding the fate of Eldrid." Rachel, a petite woman with a kind face and a mischievous glint in her eye, smiled knowingly. "I know, Sir Trevor. But tonight, we'll finally have someone taking their place. The ceremony later will seal their fate, and ours." Sir Trevor's eyes gleamed with excitement. "A Hylian, of all things. We've been searching for the perfect candidate for years. And now, with Azura's plan in motion, we'll finally have someone worthy of the seventh space." Rachel nodded, her expression a mixture of curiosity and concern. "I've heard rumors that the chosen one has... particular abilities. Ones that will be useful in our quest for control." Sir Trevor chuckled, a low, menacing sound. "Yes, and Azura has taken quite an interest in them, hasn't she? I've heard the princesses themselves have been arguing over the best way to utilize them." As they spoke, Princess Azura stood at the center of the room, a radiant smile on her face as she mingled with the guests. Zelda noticed her and felt a shiver run down her spine. The princess's eyes seemed to gleam with an inner light, and her laughter sent shivers down the spines of those nearby. Meanwhile, as the evening wore on, a group of nobles approached Azura, eager to curry favor with the princess. Their conversation turned to the topic of the seven individuals Zelda had asked about earlier. "Did you know that Lila, the young queen of the forest kingdom, is a Water Nymph?" one of the nobles asked, his voice filled with curiosity. "Ah, yes," Azura replied, her voice smooth as silk. "And Lander, the blacksmith's apprentice, is a Dwarf from the Iron Mountains. His people have always been skilled in the forge, but he's also shown a remarkable talent for crafting instruments of control." Zelda's ears perked up as another noble chimed in, "I've heard Lyra, the enchantress, is a Moon Elf, with a natural affinity for magic that rivals even the most skilled sorcerers." Azura nodded, her eyes glinting with amusement. "That's right. And Leo, the strategist, is a Human from the city of Hyrule. His people have always been skilled in politics and warfare." The conversation turned to Lachlan, the young warrior, and Lucien, the thief. "He's a Windborn," Azura said, her voice dripping with satisfaction. "His people have always been skilled in the art of stealth and deception." As for Lucas, the young mage, he was a member of the ancient Hylian bloodline, with a natural talent for magic that rivaled even the most skilled sorcerers. The last one, Zelda learned, was Lander, who hailed from the sturdy Dwarven clans of the Iron Mountains, known for their skill in crafting and engineering. And then there was Link, the young hero they had all heard so much about. Zelda's heart sank as she realized that each of these individuals had been chosen for their unique abilities and strengths. But there was something more, something that Azura and her cohorts weren't telling her. With a surge of adrenaline, Zelda made her way through the crowds, determined to find out what had really happened to her friends. Her eyes locked onto Azura's, and for a moment, the two princesses just stared at each other, their faces locked in a silent understanding. The evening wore on, and Zelda found herself torn between her desire to help her friends and her revulsion at Azura's actions. She couldn't help but wonder what lay in store for those who had been "chosen" for their unique abilities, and whether she would be able to save them before it was too late.
