**Chapter 1: The Hogwarts Express Chugs Along**
Part 1
The Hogwarts Express chugged along the tracks, carrying me, Brenya Longbottom, and my fellow students back to the castle for another year of magic and mayhem. I settled into my seat in the Gryffindor compartment, surrounded by my best friends Seamus Finnigan and Dean Thomas. The atmosphere was lively, with everyone chatting and laughing as we caught up on each other's summer holidays. Seamus, with his messy red hair and mischievous grin, was regaling us with stories of his adventures in the Burrow, while Dean listened intently, his eyes shining with excitement. I smiled and joined in, happy to be reunited with my friends after a summer spent at Longbottom Manor with Neville, our grandma, and the usual chaos that came with it. As we chatted, I couldn't help but think about my friendship with Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. We weren't super close, but we got along well enough, and I always enjoyed talking to them about Quidditch and the latest Hogwarts gossip. I had also become decently okay friends with Hermione Granger over the years, bonding over our shared love of books and academic pursuits. Just then, the compartment door slid open and Harry, Ron, and Hermione climbed in, looking like they'd just had a busy summer. Harry's eyes sparkled with excitement as he launched into a story about his Quidditch training, while Ron and Hermione exchanged a look that made me chuckle. Those three were always up to something. Seamus nudged me with his elbow, and I turned to him, smiling. He smiled back, his eyes crinkling at the corners, and I felt my heart skip a beat. I pushed the feeling aside, though - we weren't going to act on our feelings for each other for a couple of years yet, and besides, we were just friends... for now. Dean, on the other hand, was already shipping us hard. He'd been convinced since our second year that Seamus and I were meant to be, and he never tired of trying to push us together. I rolled my eyes good-naturedly, but Seamus just grinned and shook his head. As the train rumbled on, we talked about everything from our summer holidays to our hopes for the new school year. I was dreading our Transfiguration lessons with Professor McGonagall, but Seamus was confident he'd master the complex spells. Dean was more concerned about the upcoming Quidditch matches, and I was happy to offer my insights as a fellow Gryffindor. The conversation flowed easily, and before I knew it, the train was pulling into Hogsmeade Station. We gathered our belongings and followed the crowd of students out onto the platform, the cool Scottish air a welcome change from the stuffy train. As we made our way towards the castle, I felt a sense of excitement building. What would this year bring? Would we finally learn how to cast those tricky spells? Would Gryffindor win the House Cup? And what secrets lay hidden in the ancient castle walls, waiting to be uncovered? We reached the entrance hall, and Professor McGonagall stood on the dais, welcoming us back to Hogwarts. The sorting ceremony for the first years was about to begin, and I watched with a smile as the nervous newcomers made their way onto the stage. But as I turned to my friends, I caught a glimpse of something out of the corner of my eye - a flicker of movement, a flash of dark magic... and my heart skipped a beat. What was going on?
