A Calculated Move
Part 7
I decided to attract the right person. I had to find someone who could help me understand what was going on and why Echo_22 had put me in that situation. As I walked through the crowded festival grounds, I scanned the faces, looking for someone who seemed out of place, someone who might be connected to Echo_22. I spotted a figure standing alone, sipping a drink and watching the crowd with a detached air. There was something about them that seemed familiar, but I couldn't quite place it. I made my way over, trying to appear nonchalant, and cleared my throat to get their attention. The figure turned, and I saw that it was a young woman with piercing green eyes and short, spiky black hair. She looked at me with a mixture of curiosity and wariness, but didn't seem surprised to see me. "Can I help you?" she asked, her voice low and smooth. "I'm looking for someone," I said, trying to gauge her reaction. "Someone who might be able to help me understand what's going on." She raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?" "I was just on live TV, and I have no idea why," I said, trying to keep my tone light. "I'm hoping you might know something about it." The woman's expression changed, and for a moment, I saw a flicker of recognition in her eyes. "You mean the interview with Maya?" she asked, her voice a little softer. I nodded. "That's the one. Do you know what it was about?" The woman smiled, a small, enigmatic smile. "I think I might be able to help you," she said. "My name is Lena, by the way." I shook her hand, feeling a spark of electricity as our palms touched. "I'm... um, I'm not sure what my name is," I admitted, feeling a little silly. Lena laughed. "Don't worry, I think I can help you with that too," she said. "But first, let's get out of here. This place is too crowded." She led me through the crowds, expertly navigating the throngs of people. We eventually ended up at a small, quiet café on the outskirts of the festival grounds. Lena gestured for me to sit down, and I did, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. "So," she said, leaning forward. "Tell me what you remember." I took a deep breath, trying to gather my thoughts. "I remember being on a hill, and then suddenly I was on live TV. And there was this woman, Maya, asking me questions. But I don't know why I was there, or what was going on." Lena nodded, her eyes never leaving mine. "I think I can help you piece together what's happening," she said. "But first, I need to ask you something. Do you remember anything about your life before... whatever this is?" I frowned, trying to think. But my memories seemed fuzzy, distant. I couldn't quite grasp anything concrete. Lena nodded, as if she expected that. "Don't worry," she said. "It'll come back to you. Eventually." I wasn't so sure, but I felt a sense of hope rising up inside me. Maybe, just maybe, Lena could help me uncover the truth about who I was, and what was going on.
