"Beyond the Darkness"
Part 60
Ryan's eyes, red-rimmed from lack of sleep and excessive crying, locked onto Ashley's, searching for a glimmer of hope, a spark of life that seemed to be dwindling by the day. Two weeks had passed since they said goodbye to Ashton, and the ache within them felt like an open wound that refused to heal. The familiar comforts of their home, once a sanctuary, now felt like a cold, empty space that echoed with the memories of their baby boy. Ashley stared at Ryan, her eyes dry from crying, but her heart still heavy with sorrow. She took a deep breath, and her voice was barely above a whisper as she spoke. "Ryan, I don't know if I can do this anymore," she said, her words trembling. "I don't know if I can live without him." Ryan's face contorted in anguish, and he reached out to her, but Ashley shook her head. She got up and walked to the drawer, her movements mechanical, her eyes fixed on some point in front of her. She pulled out a small bag and turned to Ryan, her eyes brimming with tears. "I'm sorry, Ryan," she whispered, her voice cracking. "I just can't do this without him. I don't want to do this without him." She looked at him, her eyes pleading, and Ryan felt a chill run down his spine. Ashley pulled out two pills from the bag and held one in her hand. "You can't live without me," she said, her voice firm, resolute. "You have to take one, Ryan. We have to go together. We will be with him, and it will be okay." Ryan's eyes widened in horror as he stared at the pill in Ashley's hand. He shook his head, trying to process what was happening. "No, Ashley," he whispered, his voice trembling. "No, you can't do this. We can't do this. We have to find a way to live with this, to honor Ashton's memory." Ashley's eyes locked onto Ryan's, and for a moment, they just stared at each other. The air was thick with tension, and Ryan could feel the weight of Ashley's grief bearing down on him. "Please, Ryan," Ashley whispered, her voice barely audible. "Let's go together. Let's be with him." Ryan's mind was racing, and he felt like he was drowning in a sea of despair. He looked at Ashley, and he saw the desperation in her eyes, the desire to escape the pain, to be with their baby boy again. He took a step forward, his heart heavy with sorrow, and Ashley held out the pill. Ryan's hand hesitated, and for a moment, he thought he was going to take it, to end the pain, to be with Ashton and Ashley again. But something inside him clicked, and he shook his head. "No, Ashley," he whispered, his voice firm. "I'm not going to lose you too. I'm going to hold on, for you, for us, for Ashton."
