Chaos Unfolds
Part 3
The night air was shattered by a loud crash, followed by a blood-curdling screech that sent shivers down Jim's spine. He rushed to the entrance of the Benbow Inn, Ayres close behind him, and was met with a sight that made his heart skip a beat. A reptilian man, with scales glistening in the moonlight, lay struggling on the ground, his claws flailing wildly as he tried to free himself from a tangled heap of luggage and debris. The sound of screeching and crashing echoed through the air, growing louder by the second. Without hesitation, Jim rushed to the man's side, helping him to his feet. The reptilian man towered over him, his piercing green eyes locking onto Jim's as he spoke in a low, raspy voice. "The...map...please...you must take it," he stammered, pressing a small, golden orb into Jim's hands. As soon as Jim took the orb, the reptilian man's body began to shift and contort, his scales morphing into smooth, unblemished skin. His features transformed, and he stood before Jim as a frail, elderly man. The Benbow Inn erupted into chaos as flames began to lick at the wooden beams, fueled by an unknown source. Panic set in as guests scrambled to escape, their voices rising in a cacophony of fear. Ayres took charge, ushering people towards the exit with a calm, authoritative voice that cut through the din. As they stumbled out into the night air, the elderly man grasped Jim's arm, his eyes burning with an urgent intensity. "The map...it leads to...the treasure of Captain Flint. You must be careful...there are those who will stop at nothing to claim it." With that, he vanished into thin air, leaving Jim staring at the golden orb in his hand. The Benbow Inn was now a raging inferno, with flames engulfing the roof and windows. Ayres grabbed Jim's arm, pulling him towards the stables. "We have to get out of here, now!" she shouted above the roar of the fire. They fled on foot, joining a small group of refugees who had made their way to the safety of Dr. Delbert's estate, located on the outskirts of Montressor. As they stumbled through the gates, Dr. Delbert himself appeared, his wild grey hair standing on end as he surveyed the crowd. "Welcome, my friends," he boomed, his eyes twinkling with concern. "You are safe here. But I fear we have only just begun to face the challenges that lie ahead." The group collapsed onto the grass, exhausted and shaken, as Jim gazed down at the golden orb in his hand, wondering what secrets it held, and what dangers lay in store for them.
