"A New Path Unfolds"
Part 26
The night had fallen, and the group had decided to rest in the ruin town, taking advantage of the shelter's hospitality. Althaea had spent the evening preparing potions and gathering spare ingredients and recipes, which she handed over to Lyra and Kael. They sat by the fire, carefully memorizing the contents of a small notebook, their brows furrowed in concentration. "These potions will definitely come in handy on our journey," Lyra said, her eyes scanning the pages. "I'm glad we have Althaea's expertise on our side." As they worked, Eira noticed Kael glancing at Elwynn, a look of fondness on his face. She cleared her throat, and Kael turned to her. "Eira, you asked me earlier about how I know Elwynn," he said, a hint of a smile on his lips. "I suppose it's time I told you the story." The group gathered around, intrigued, and Kael began to speak. "I was born into a bandit clan, one that had been raiding and pillaging the countryside for years. Elwynn was captured by us during one of our raids. She was a skilled warrior, but she was also... different. She had a certain aura about her that I couldn't quite explain." Elwynn's eyes had dropped, and she was listening intently, her face a mixture of emotions. "I was tasked with teaching her magic," Kael continued. "She was a quick learner, and I was impressed by her determination. As time passed, we bonded over our shared experiences as outcasts. I was a reject from my own clan, and Elwynn was a loner. We found common ground in our struggles." The group listened with rapt attention as Kael recounted his story. "During a battle with a rival clan, I helped Elwynn escape. We fought side by side, and I made sure she got out safely. After that, we parted ways, but I've always kept an eye out for her. When I heard she was searching for a way to defeat the dark forces, I knew I had to join her." Elwynn's eyes met Kael's, and a warm smile spread across her face. "I'm glad you did, Kael," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. As the night wore on, the group packed up their belongings, ready to set off towards the capital. Althaea handed them a small satchel filled with potions and spare ingredients. "These should help you on your journey," she said. "Be careful, and don't hesitate to reach out if you need anything." With a final farewell, the group set off into the dawn, their footsteps echoing through the ruined town. As they walked, the landscape shifted, and the air grew thick with an air of anticipation. They knew that the capital held secrets and dangers, but they were ready to face whatever lay ahead.
