Chapter 2: The Search Begins
Part 2
"Wait, what do you mean 'she's gone'?" Bolin asked, his eyes narrowing in concern as he fell into step beside Korra. Korra's pace didn't slow, her long strides eating up the distance as she made her way to the elevator. "I mean she's not in her bed, her phone and wallet are still there, but her jacket and bag are gone. And there's nothing on her schedule for the day. No meetings, no appointments. It's like she just vanished." Bolin's expression darkened. "That's not like Asami. She's always organized, always on top of things. This doesn't sound like her at all." The elevator doors slid open, and Korra stepped inside, Bolin close behind. She pressed the button for the top floor, where Asami's office was located. As the doors closed, Bolin turned to Korra. "Do you think something's happened to her? Maybe she was taken?" Korra's face set in a determined mask. "I don't know, but I intend to find out. I need to check her office, see if there's any sign of what happened." The elevator doors opened, and Korra strode out into the sleek, modern hallway. Asami's office was at the end of the hall, and Korra made a beeline for it. Bolin followed close behind, his eyes scanning the area as if searching for any signs of trouble. As they approached Asami's office, Korra's heart began to pound in her chest. Something was off, she could feel it. She pushed open the door, and Bolin stepped inside beside her. The office was spotless, everything in its place. But as Korra's eyes scanned the room, she noticed something that made her blood run cold. Asami's safe was open, and her most valuable possessions were scattered across the desk. "Korra, look at this," Bolin said, his voice low and serious. Korra's eyes followed Bolin's gaze to a piece of paper on the desk. It was a note, scribbled in hasty handwriting. "I'm sorry, Korra. I had to leave. -A" Korra's heart sank. This was not Asami's handwriting, but it was clear that whoever had written the note had been trying to leave a message for her. The question was, what did it mean? And where was Asami now?
