"Code Blue"
Part 19
The ER was chaotic, with doctors and nurses rushing to and fro, their faces set with determination. John, Doug, and Luka were in the middle of a particularly difficult case, a young motorcycle rider who had been brought in with severe injuries. "Alright, let's move him to CT," John barked, his eyes scanning the patient's vitals. "We need to get a better look at that head trauma." Doug nodded, already heading towards the CT scanner. "I'll get him prepped," he called back over his shoulder. Luka stayed by John's side, monitoring the patient's heart rate. "His vitals are stable, but we need to keep an eye on him," he said, his brow furrowed with concern. As they worked, a commotion erupted at the ER entrance. A woman stumbled in, looking frantic. "Please, you have to help me," she begged, her eyes wild with fear. "My sister was in a car accident. She's been hurt really bad." John immediately turned his attention to the woman. "Okay, calm down," he said, his voice soothing. "What's your sister's name?" The woman hesitated, her eyes darting around the ER. "It's...it's Emily. She was driving home from work when another car ran a red light. I was in the car behind her." Doug reappeared, his face grim. "We need to get her into a room, stat," he said to John. As they quickly ushered Emily into a trauma room, Luka began to assess her injuries. "She's got a severe concussion, possible internal injuries," he said, his voice tight with concern. John nodded, his eyes locked on Emily's pale face. "Let's get her stabilized and get her into surgery," he said. As they worked to save Emily's life, John's mind was elsewhere. He couldn't shake the image of Pamela, her eyes haunted by secrets. He wondered what she was hiding, and whether he would ever find out. The ER was always unpredictable, but tonight it seemed like everything was happening at once. John's thoughts were interrupted by a nurse rushing in with a worried look on her face. "Dr. Taylor, we've got a code blue in room 3," she said. John's heart sank. They were already overworked, and now they had another critical patient on their hands. He turned to Doug and Luka. "Let's go," he said, already heading towards room 3. As they rushed into the room, John's eyes scanned the chaos. A patient's heart had stopped beating, and they were fighting to revive him. The next few minutes were a blur of chest compressions, medication, and desperate attempts to save the patient's life. When they finally managed to get the patient's heart beating again, John let out a sigh of relief. It had been a close call, but they had saved another life. But as he turned to leave the room, he caught sight of a familiar face in the hallway. It was James, looking grim and worried. John's instincts immediately went on high alert. What was James doing here? And what did he want? John's eyes locked onto James', and for a moment, they just stared at each other. Then James nodded, and turned to walk away. John watched him go, his mind racing with questions. What was going on? And how was it connected to Pamela?
