**Chapter 1: The Unseen Observer**

Part 1

The warm sunlight streamed through the large windows of the Birch's living room, casting a golden glow over the spacious interior. Mr. and Mrs. Birch lounged on the plush couch, sipping their morning coffee and chatting about their plans for the day. The sound of laughter and gentle conversation filled the air, a stark contrast to the tense atmosphere that often lingered in Andrew's household. In the corner of the room, Judd sat on his favorite armchair, his eyes fixed on the floor as he stared intently at his dusty red bracelet. His gaze was so focused that it seemed to bore into the worn leather strap, as if searching for answers to unspoken questions. His short, black-fading-to-blue hair was parted in the middle, framing his pale complexion and accentuating his piercing greenish-grey eyes. As the morning wore on, the sounds of the household changed. The clinking of dishes and the hum of the refrigerator signaled that breakfast was being prepared in the kitchen. The aroma of freshly cooked pancakes wafted through the air, enticing everyone's appetite. Judd's gaze remained fixed on the floor, his mind elsewhere. He had always been a quiet and observant member of the family, often going unnoticed by his relatives and their guests. However, Judd noticed everything. He watched as his family members interacted with each other and with the few people who entered their home. One person in particular had caught his attention over the past year – Andrew Glouberman, his father's friend's son. Andrew came over every weekend to hang out with Nick, Judd's younger brother. Judd had grown accustomed to seeing Andrew's lanky frame, short fluffy brown hair, and large brown eyes behind black-framed glasses. He noticed how Andrew's green sweater and blue jeans seemed to be his staple outfit whenever he visited. As Judd thought about Andrew, he couldn't help but feel a flutter in his chest. It was a sensation he had never experienced before, and it left him feeling both intrigued and unsettled. He pushed the feeling aside, attributing it to mere curiosity. After all, he barely interacted with Andrew, mostly seeing him at dinner when the whole family gathered to eat. Judd's eyes drifted toward the hallway, where he could hear the sound of Nick and Andrew's laughter as they made their way downstairs. His heart skipped a beat as he caught a glimpse of Andrew's messy brown hair and bright smile. For a moment, Judd forgot to breathe. He felt like he was staring at something sacred, something he shouldn't be looking at. He quickly averted his gaze, his face growing hot with a mixture of shame and excitement. As the sounds of Nick and Andrew's chatter grew louder, Judd's mind began to wander. He thought about the times he had watched Andrew from afar, noticing the way he smiled when he talked about his favorite video games or the way his eyes lit up when he played basketball with Nick. Judd's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of his mother's voice, calling out to him from the kitchen. "Judd, honey, breakfast is ready! Come join us!" With a sense of trepidation, Judd stood up from his armchair, his eyes scanning the room as if searching for an escape. He knew he had to face Andrew and the rest of the family, but he couldn't shake off the feeling that his life was about to change in ways he couldn't yet comprehend.
