A Night of Unexpected Revelations

Part 4

The evening arrived, and I was excited to spend some quality time with Nick. We had decided to go to a new Italian restaurant in town, and I was looking forward to trying their famous pasta dishes. As we walked to the restaurant, Nick seemed a bit quiet, but I brushed it off as him being preoccupied with his own thoughts. As we sat down at our table, Nick's phone buzzed with a text message. He glanced at it and smiled, "It's my boyfriend, Alex. He's running a bit late, but he'll meet us here soon." I raised an eyebrow, surprised that Nick had a boyfriend. I had assumed he was single, but I didn't pry and instead focused on perusing the menu. Just as we were about to order, a woman walked in and scanned the room. Her eyes landed on Nick, and she smiled warmly. "Nick, darling!" she exclaimed, walking over to our table. Nick stood up, and I could see the resemblance between him and his mother. "Mum, this is Sarah," he said, introducing us. Sarah, or Nick's mum, was a warm and bubbly person. We chatted for a bit, and I learned that she was a free-spirited artist who loved traveling and trying new things. As we talked, I couldn't help but notice that Nick seemed a bit uncomfortable with his mum's presence. Just then, Alex walked in, and Nick's demeanor changed. He seemed more relaxed and at ease, and I could tell that he was happy to see his boyfriend. As we ordered our food and waited for it to arrive, the conversation flowed easily. Alex was charming and witty, and I found myself laughing and feeling at ease. But as the night wore on, I started to notice that Nick's dad was mentioned a few times in conversation. Each time, Nick seemed to tense up, and I could sense that there was more to the story. As we finished our meal and prepared to leave, Sarah leaned in and whispered something in Nick's ear. He looked taken aback, and I could see the concern etched on his face. "What's wrong?" I asked, as we walked out of the restaurant. Nick hesitated, looking at Alex, who nodded encouragingly. "I think it's time I told you the truth about my family," Nick said, his voice barely above a whisper. I felt a sense of trepidation, wondering what secrets Nick was about to reveal. But as we walked into the night, I knew that I was ready to face whatever came next.
